Hey i'm just looking to replace my coolant flange because i've been seeing some pink crusting around the back of the block and figured it was the flange, i've been looking around and i've only seen some tutorials with fairly weak pictures. any help?

I just got done replacing mine the other day and it is a PITA. Make sure your not leaking from the coolant temp sensor O ring that is located in the top of the flange first because getting to the flange to remove it is not fun, but doable. I found it the easiest to take off the intake manifold along with some of the plumbing on both the drivers side and passanger side of the engine. This will allow you to get to the back of the block and the flange. Good luck.

Hey, thanks for the reply, not exactly sure where the leak-sweating is coming from, but i know its for sure between the block and the flange itself, i dont see any leaking coming from the hoses off the flange, hard to see though, by the way, whats the best place to drain the coolant with the smallest mess? bottom pipe of rad?

just did mine a couple weeks ago. good diy on a4mods (i think)

it is a PAIN. not hard to do (literally two bolts) but very hard to get to. you have to take out quite a lot of stuff to get to it. parts are cheap. $15-$20 for the flange. +$15 for the temp sensor (just do it at the same time)

I didn't even drain, just took out temp sender and used a turkey baster to get out the coolant, still lost a little, but not much. you only ned to drain coolant to a level below the flange, NOT the whole system. unless you are due for a swap anyway...

you need to be able to work blind to do this job. it's on the back of the motor under a bunch of other stuff. my brother cleared a bunch of the hoses and wire harness and worked from the sides(like hugging the motor).
