    Wink Headlight LED B6 Prototype

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I received the donor headlights yesterday and have been working on the project since. I tried different setup: Front of the lens, all the bottom and coming up to the turn signal side but this is the one that gives the best result. It's really a bitch to take pictures at night without tripod so excuse the picture quality. Each led gives a nice effect (V shape) I used the same LED high quality that I used for the B7 project and of couse the same high intensite (50 000 mcd).Heuh, don't ask to see pictures installed because I have a B7. I would like to get your opinion

I still need to figure out the wiring (sorry not too familiar with B6)but the easiest will be to connect it in place of the city lights. The kit (strips + x2 resistors) will be $150 shipped.

Looks good! Gonna do a write-up or sell these out of your garage? What did you use for the LED strips? Home made or just installed a pre-made one?

I like them. I take it I will have to remove the "glass" from the light set?! Is there risk in getting dirt inside and damaging my xenons? I also heard that it can be tough to reseal the glass to the set properly. How tough is it.

If you send me your headlights, I'll do the labor for you. All the headlights I do I reseal them with the original compound and never got a moisture issue

Looks really really clean. Probably one of the cleanest LEDs retrofit I've seen, so kuddos to you.

So I'm curious, when are the LEDs turn on exactly? Are these on all the time? If so I'd be curious to see what it looks like when the low beams are on too.

It would be interesting to see what the results look like w/ city lights.

I am definitely interested. How early would you start taking orders in to work on them and how much would you ask for for the kit installation, and polishing of the interior and exterior of the "glass". I have some oxidation going on internally and externally on mine. :(

Again, I am not too familiar with the B6. Does B6 have DRL? If yes, they can be wired to them, or they can be wired to the City Lights, or, they can be wired to both, like I did on the B7. Because I can't connect them to a B6, I can't show you how they look when the low beam is active

The B6 can be VAG-COM'ed for DRL.

Below is a pic of the e-codes, the city light is located in the high beam projector.

I like it but you should place LEDs closer to the lense to prevent the large flare they produce at this place... I saw that it's what you made for the B7 and I believe it's a good idea...

I did try but I don't like the outcome: due to the headlight shape and mainly the angle of the plastic piece inside, it's not as nice.

i dont think 150 is too much due to the led parts, taking the lights apart and seal them back to the original way, and shipping to your door..i think its a steal

Yeah man. Someone needs to actually do this before they realize it ain't cheap or easy. These aren't the cheap eBay flex strips. My LED's alone cost about $75.

^^correct this is not cheap by any means, and the labor that goes into doing this a charge would 100% charge u triple what he's asking.

Yep. I just flat out laugh when I get PM's asking how much I'd charge to do theirs. Even just simple Joey mod ain't easy to get the halves apart in such a way that they don't look hacked apart. Anyone can pry up all the plastic and try to heat gun it back in to shape when back together. Try getting the halves apart without the lips bending. It's tough. And I haven't seen many separate the halves without hacking up the upper black outer lip. The key is to put the halves together without having to try and reform all that stuff.
Quality is $$$. And between the CF and the LED's on mine, coupled with time and labor (how many weeks have I been posting pics?) it's another set of ecodes in comparative cost. People are getting it dirt cheap for $150, if the quality is even somewhat good.

Oh, BTW, what provisions does the OP have to swap LED when one goes out? It always happens.
