3 fixit tickets! any police officers on here?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I just got 3 fixit tickets from the chp today for not having a front plate, tinted tails and tinted windows. Anyone here an officer or have any hookups to write off my tickets? I know it's a long shot but hey it's worth a shot right? It couldn't have come at a worse time since I'm putting on a new oettinger front bumper in a few days and I don't want to drill holes in my new bumper for a license plate. Someone help a friend out. It's funny too because the bike officer and the one who came in a patrol car were staring at my car for a good minute before he actually wrote the ticket. Anyone else get screwed like me recently?

I don't think it behoove an officer, regardless of rank or ability, to say publicly on here that they would write off the tickets for you if you don't change anything. :-/

I guess asking never killed anyone though... well maybe...

I do know a Riverside sheriff deputy but definitely not the hookup type, about as straight-laced as they get. I signed off mucho civilian tickets when I was in the MP business but they were pretty much all legit.

You don't have to drill your bumper. use zip ties to mount the license plate to the bumper

^ the zip tie idea would work, but then again I guess I'm just using the holes in the bumper as an excuse for being lazy. The biggest pita will be the tint, because we all damn well know it's unbearable to not have tint on your windows in socal during the summer. I guess I shouldn't be so bitter, a littering ticket is ten times worse then my predicament, good luck with that btw!

    tinted tails?
and the technical reason for that ticket was? dim lights? and your answer is, "the brightness is turned up to match" (via VAG COM, or the dealer), as would be done with factory tinted tails on various models.

I don't think that it's dim lights. The reason for not allowing car to have tinted rear lights is that they lose their reflective properties. You have to have front rear and side reflectors on cars.

    It's $800 (+ court fees, etc).

I threw a cigg out my window on the freeway, CHP pulls up next to me; and I get this "Oh Shit" face on as I'm looking at him. He does some handmotions, and eventually he gets tired of me being an idiot, not understanding, and tells me over the bullhorn "thats $800 you almost threw out there." Luckily it was really early in the morning and he probably didn't want to go out in the cold.

Re: 3 fixit tickets! any police officers on here?

California and it's F'd up tinting laws. Luckily my dad is retired law enforcement who just happens to have connections still. I got a tinting ticket by some douche bag police officer who pulled me over saying I made an illegal u-turn. The funny part is that I did not make a u-turn, I made a right off of a side street onto the main street he was on. He argued with me for a bit and I vehemently informed the officer that he was dead wrong. He finally said that he saw two silver cars and that he was far back so it must have been the other car, but decided since he had pulled me over that he still needed to write me a ticket and tinting on the front windows was adequate.

Another instance of "I WIN!" Got my ticket signed off, and never removed my tinting! We have two homes, one in Cali and one in Arizona, so my dad is smart and registered his vehicle in AZ and limo tinted the whole thing! Not like if he got pulled over he would get a ticket seeing he still has his badge. God the more I type the more I hate cops! The funny part is most cops have there front windows tinted!

    STOP BREAKING THE LAW A**HOLE

Littering tickets are the best. Use your ashtrey, bottle with water in it. Imagine if all the smokers in socal just started flicking cigarette butts out the window, It would start looking like Tijuana, Not to mention all the fires you could potentially start. Use your brains.

And yes yes hate cops, and give attitude cause you will get the same attitude right back. Cops are here to enforce laws, prevent or "detur" crime so why hate them, do you think it was a cop that wrote the law about tint ?

Without some "order" the U.S. would just be another third world country, take my word on that.

In closing, if you dont want to pay a fine, go to court, blah blah blah, etc, etc. Be a law obiding citizen. Thanks goodnight.

Wow cops are here to PREVENT or Detour.... wow so they are like batman, seriously? You must work for some form of government to give such a generic and rehearsed response. I really don't want to start shit, but do you feel comfortable with an individual with no more education than a high school diploma dictating the law of the land? Granted, there are cop's that pursue some form of higher education, but seriously they are much fewer and far between then the average cop. My problem with police is that they themselves feel exempt from the rules they are meant to enforce. How often do you see a cop fly by without his lights on, traveling above the posted speed limit... did you know that that is illegal? So wait, we cannot break laws, but they can? Anyone who defends there actions truly doesn't see the hypocrisy that law enforcement has become. I have a very intimate knowledge of police thanks to a father who is retired, and maybe its a bad thing, since he really has really cast a different image of what police work is really about. Obviously Leroy Baca and his minions would love your point of view, but I just cannot agree!

I am not saying anarchy is the answer, but anyone who thinks our system is working either is a politician, a member of law enforcement, or an idiot! So where do you fit in?

The reason our CVC restricts limo tinting is because some idiot in Sacramento postulated the notion that it restricts our ability to see the rear view mirror. I believe that actual vehicle code section reads in such a way that it sounds like you could limo tint the front windows and simply leave a small clear section and that would be adequate. That would look hideous though! AS for coppers having tinted windows, again my theory is the whole above the law notion. Who is going to fuck with them?

Most places that put the tint on will remove it so you can fix the ticket and then replace the tint for a very reduced rate (some places do it free). The shop I went to will redo the tint for $40 or so.

The reason I hate cops is because they have SO MANY MORE IMPORTANT THINGS TO DO than f*ck with us about tint and license plates... it makes me so mad! Go bust the drug dealer and the dude killing and molesting people and leave me alone.. but no.. thats hard..stupid cops!

Zipties did the trick when I had to get my front plate ticket signed off.

Rolled up and the plate kinda swings forward like a saloon door, then back again.. cop goes and signs it hahaha

One cop told me he tinted his windows all around dark so that people who he arrested or pulled over wouldnt see his face while driving. He said it was for protection for him and his family.

I always understood the tinted windows issue in CA was for the safety of the officer. So that they can see if the car they are walking up to has a bunch of guys pointing guns at them. Not that I agree with the law, but I understand their concern, they have a dangerous job.

oh and I am THRILLED to hear of those (or anyone) who got a ticket for throwing a cigarette out of their car. Nothing against you personally, I'm sure your a great guys, but that's littering, and a real fire hazard. Again, nothing personal, just a pet peeve of mine.

I cut off the head's of a few screws and glued them to my license plate, so whenever I get a ticket, I just use some double sided tape for when I get it signed off then pull it right off. It's not so bad here, but when I'm in LA they give you such a hard time for little things like tint and plates....so lame. I remember one incident, a cop completely busted a hard u turn in a hurry and pulled me over like I committed a serious crime. He ended up pull me over for not having front plates :-/.....That's pretty sad that they get so excited over giving fix it tickets.

Re: 3 fixit tickets! any police officers on here?

when i received a ticket for no front plate, I went with my zip tied and I didnt have a problem getting it signed up. Maybe it is the officer, but at a latter time, I made some brackets that sit under the bumper and whenever i needed to put plates the brackets where there.

zip ties should work. If I remember correctly, the law states that it must be visible from the front, all numbers/letters visible, and be in a secure location. It never says it has to be mounted by screws in the bumper.

BoostinonYOU has a point. While these "pointless" traffic stops can be irritating--- Traffic cops has 2 functions:

    1. Generate from Revenue
    2. Get real lucky in solving crime.

To elaborate on the second function, a cop can pull over a Random Joe, he may seem like a perfectly normal, law abiding citizen. Cop may notice see drugs--- leads to a drug bust. Cop while scanning the driver license may notice that there is a warrant out for his arrest--- cop arrests him.

These stupid cops are making a difference, people don't notice it, and therefore don't appreciate the actual contributions of traffic cops.

Really? You think there is significance in random luck? Casino's on occasion do actually give out large jackpots, so are the making contributions to society because 1 out of every trillion actually wins money while the rest throw away there entire paycheck?

I am so tired of the idea that drug busts are significant. Do you realize that most of those busts are for possession, not distribution. So here we go again with good ole Puritan ethics. Drug users are not criminals in most cases, they are addicts with a medical problem. It's OK for alcoholics to be regarded in this fashion, but drugs... well there elicit so that makes them criminals?

I do appreciate the contributions of GOOD cops! But I read/here more stories of the cops doing the wrong thing. Did anyone read about that incident where swat accidentally shot that 15 month girl while her dad was holding her. It was obviously a mistake, swat should have never ambushed his location without making sure there would be no casualties, but they didn't and now that child is dead. The sick part is they have tried for the last three years to reverse the coroners decision that the bullet came from Swat, claiming that the father was the murderer. The extent they go to to is sickening. The article I read even had medical examiners saying under no circumstances could the evidence ever point to the bullet coming from the father gun.... not possible.

I could go on and on! I guess hate is not the best word to use when I describe my feelings toward police and chp..... but EXTREME DISDAIN will do!

Yeah, nothing in there about screws just secure. Using zip ties to the bumper really gotta be careful about scratching the paint; I would affix a very thin sheet of foam in between car and plate.

Here are the rules if anyone is curious:

5200(a) License plates; two on a vehicle, one in front and one in the rear.

5200(b) License plates; only one issue shall be attached to the rear unless issued to a truck tractor and then to be displayed in accordance with Section 4850.5 VC.

5201 License plates, securely attached and clearly visible, rear plate 12 to 60 inches high. Allows rear license plate on tow truck mast.

5201(f) License plates clearly visible. No covering may be used on license plates, with certain exceptions.

5201(g) License plates clearly visible. Prohibits any device that obstructs or impairs reading of a license plate by a remote emission sensing device.

5202 License plates, operating vehicle without proper display of.

5204(a) Current month and year tabs, attached to rear license plate, except on truck tractor to front plate.

Re: 3 fixit tickets! any police officers on here?

I've had my fair share of issues with fix it tickets in California. I'm sure a lot of it has to do with cops having to fill quotas. I think the reason they tend to care so much about little fix it tickets like tint, etc. is because ultimately fix it tickets are more money for the state due to the fact that you have to pay the ticket itself, and pay state taxes to either have tint removed or replace parts in your car.

It sucks but there's not much we can do about it. It also doesn't help that cops have been led to believe that anyone modding their car is a street racer thanks to a few stupid people. A perfect example of "One bad apple...."
