    Code Help

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
A few months ago my battery died and ever since I recharged it a few things were different.
    1) My headlights were ALWAYS on no matter the position on the headlight switch
2)My "home safe" feature didn't work (when the fogs and tails stay on for 30 seconds after locking your car in the dark).

BUT now after everything is back together my headlights won't turn on at all. :/ maybe the codes will help out, hopefully it's something like a fuse.

    Thanks.

    Re: Code Help

Those codes are AFTER everything is buttoned up and all the wires are connected? Did you clear codes prior to seeing these (after reassembling the car)?

The second set looks like you turned the key on with the headlights removed from the car.

EDIT: actually, they all look like that is what happened. Go clear the codes and turn the key ON and see what happens.

Oohhhhh, you are right. It's not that they were disconnected, they were connected to the wrong port. I'll try again.

    Huh?

You put the passenger light on the driver side and vise versa? ECU isn't smart enough to figure that out. The resistance is the same for each light housing.

I messed that up, the connection under the left headlight was unplugged.

Cleared codes in the Xenon tab, they clear for 3 seconds and then come back on.

The codes in Xenon Range fully clear though.

Why are there codes for the right headlight then, too?

Did everything go away once you fixed the plug(s), cleared codes, cycled the key, turned the lights on and rescanned the car?

PS. I found that version of VAG-Com to not clear the codes if you do a full scan on the car (all controllers) and clear the codes from that resultant listing. You have to go into each controller individually to clear the codes.

    Re: Code Help

Yea, I figured that out, I went to the individual tabs to clear the codes.

The reason the right headlight has a code to is because it was the connection that both of the headlights plug into. By the left headlight there are two connections, one for the left headlight itself and one to interconnect the right headlight.

Only the fogs work if I turn the switch as far as it goes clockwise and pull out.

I'll give you a ring tomorrow.

Basically, all the code stuff disregard. Both headlights weren't even plugged in because I was realigning them yesterday and forgot to plug them in again.

So now I have the symptoms I was having before the whole build.
Ever since my battery died awhile ago my headlights have been stuck on even if they are in the off position; and also my "home safe" feature doesn't work.

    translation for these codes?

I don't know what the deal is. I clear the codes and I scan 2 minutes later and they come up again. Some of the codes are from like 6 months ago (random misfires).

    Re: Code Help

Did you connect all the sensors when putting the engine back in?

The steering angle sensor needs to be recalibrated since your battery was disconnected..
    http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/car...ringangle.html

Did you remove SAI and EVAP stuff?
