Unhappy Need Help With Brakes. Price & Advice.

    Hey Guys,

My brakes need to be done very soon. I need new Rotors, and Pads. This is the kit im looking at right now.

    http://www.awe-tuning.com/pages/shar...kes&IL=a4combo

It gives me what i need with some better looking, preforming rotors, fluid and the cool option of steel brake lines. I dont want a complete $1500 overhaul of my brakes, so i think this is good.

    1. Can anyone find a kit like this for me at a better price? Maby with slotted instead of drilled rotors?

    2. Is this a quality kit? Sugestions?

    3. I have herd that doing rotors and brakes are not that hard but brake lines suck to do and they can dangerous if not done Exactly correct. Should i go ahead with doing the brake lines myself? I have only assisted on brake jobs.

    4. If having some one else do the lines is the better idea, can i install the rotors and pads myself and then have a shop do my brake lines for less of a labor fee?

thanks guys. i really want to make sure i get this right. after all...it is the brakes. lol

you should install the rotors and pads your self and then have a shop do the ss lines and bleed the system

rotors and pads are very easy... lines arent that difficult just have to make sure you do it right and make sure all the fittings are tight and dont leak. then bleed them and stand on the brake pedal to make sure none of the lines burst or leak. then you're good to go.

Link is fixed. I would assume there are quite a few connections that need to be re done to replace the brake lines? And how would i get my car from my garage to the shop without bleeding the brake lines?

    thats just for the front.

I'd rather piece a kit together off purems. They have really good prices on rotors/pads etc.

    Here's what you should do:

Get all four rotors from adam@spp in the group buy section here on AZ
A8 sized rotors for the front
    Stock sized rear rotors
He can slot, drill, dimple rotors or do a combination of either drilled or dimpled with slots as well.

    Here's a link to his thread http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...ht=adam+rotors

Get Audi TT caliper carriers from here because you won't find them cheaper anywhere else and they're great people:
    http://parts4vws.com/catalog/product...ber=8N0615125A

and get some performance brake pads of your choice. I have Hawk HPS's and they're great.

Don't bother getting stainless brake lines, IMO it's not worth the extra money. You're not going to feel much of a difference. However, with the bigger brakes in front. You'll feel a major improvement over stock.

    http://www.awe-tuning.com/pages/shar...kes&IL=a4combo

And the guys is going to install everything for $380.00 because my mother and father refuse to let me use the garage for a week. Is this a good labor price guys?? It seemed ok. I just orderd the kit and im going to get back to him once it arrives.

um at an actual techs point of view i flat rate that in 45 min.... brakes are easy as hell do it yourself.. your first time around it might take you 4-5 hours if you have never done it before and have never really been mechanical your whole life.. the ss lines they are over kill, i figured if ferrari dosnt even use them then why should i and also you want to change ss lines out every year due to the fact that they show no real signs of wear..

Re: Need Help With Brakes. Price & Advice.

I wouldn't bother with the SS lines.
I ordered the Stage one brake kit through Purems.com

They have awesome pricing. $300 for the kit-including oversized rotors and new carriers. Noticed a little braking increasement, due to the fact I ordered better pads. No real reason for it to increase braking. If you're that set with SS brake line it shows them at $90.00, and if you want slotted or drilled thats about an additional $60 it shows. Get a good set of pads and you're at the same price as your other kit. If you do any spirited driving or tracking this set up is going to be a lot better for the same price.

Very simple install. Don't be me and not torque down the drivers side carrier bolts though. Carrier slid off on I405, that ended up being a pretty crappy night.
