My dealer called me and said I owed them $140 for processing fees that they didnt charge me when I bought the car. I kindly told the woman the name of the salesman I had and told her to pass along the message that he can "lick my balls". He called me later that day and told me not to worry about the charge, like seriously how stupid can they be.

They seriously try to charge that much for labor? The running shop rate at audi where i live is $130 an hour, assuming it's the same for you, basically they're saying changing 4 coil packs took them almost 2 hours?

They don't even require any tools.... You literally remove the engine cover and pull on them after you unplug it and they come out. Then you just shove the new one in the cylinder and plug it in haha. I hope you realize that if you paid that you got more than raped, you got raped and murdered and then raped again. Because as stated, it takes like 60 seconds. Shit you can change your coil packs and spark plugs in under 5 minutes lol.

You should at least carry one extra. It saved me a tow fee and apparently $200 labor at the dealer

I suspect there is a 'standard' time allotment for the job which ends up on the invoice (about 1.5 hours by the looks of things) even though they only take 2 minutes each to do...

Still - my Boss's ML500 cost $750 for spark plug replacement ("Well there are 16 plugs, sir"). They must have a oil tanker full of vaseline parked outside every Merc dealer...

No, no, no, I did not pay that. I got CEL yesterday driving back from lunch, and my forum research led me to believe it was a bad ECT. (VAG also reported a misfire in coil 4, but I carry spares in the trunk) Luckily, I got a letter awhile ago saying the ECT is covered by an extended warranty.

I went in today and told them the only thing I wanted was them to change the ECT if was covered under the extension. When it was ready, they called saying the sensor was covered, and they recommend changing all 4 coil packs for $353.87. I said no way, I'll do it myself if it needs to be done. Funny enough, this isn't even what made me mad.

When I got there to pick it up, my bill was for $125. This was for the diagnosis for the coilpacks that I decided not to get. I told the guy that was BS, it takes 5 minutes to run a scan, and I knew about it before I walked in the door. He said "there is no way your scan could have told you that. We have a $25,000 machine that doesn't even tell us that." I told him to save some money and buy a VAG cable. Thankfully the supervisor waived the fee.

This is why I only go there for warranty stuff. I bet 90% of the customers pay that crap without a word.
