    Noise While Accelerating

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey everyone,

Got a little problem that has been going on for a while now.

Everytime I put my foot on the gas pedal, I always hear some kind of noise possibly from the front suspension or engine (not too sure where it's coming from but I narrowed it down to those two).
The noise also gets louder as the RPM gets higher, but once I release the gas pedal, the noise suddenly stops.

Could it be the front axles going bad?

Thank you in advance for any tips and info I could get.

What kind of sound? Is your car an automatic or manual? 1.8 or V6?

    Re: Noise While Accelerating

    Hey there!
I have the same noise at 1st. And 2nd. And when I shift 3rd. The noise is gone is the exact same thing that happens to you. I just did some work on it (well not me actually) replaced: water pump, timming belt, (not that it matters but the important things I replaced both front axles and the 3 motor mounts so I thought I was done with the noise, but guess what, is still there, so 4 sure is not the axles I have to take it to the shop again this week so if I find what is it I let u know or if u do plz let me know

    Re: Noise While Accelerating

u know, is more like if something was loose over there, but im pretty sure there's not, cuz my mechanic did a lot of work on it, and the noise was there b4 he got his hands on the car, and it was there after, and he changed, axles, timing belt, rotors... so idk

    Re: Noise While Accelerating

I think my problem comes from the axles. Haven't replaced them but I narrowed it down. I'll update once I replace those axles.

ZeRo_R17 are you talking about this kind of sound: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9LJP1mw0es
Because that sound is happening during idle and when it comes to my case, the sound is there only when the car is in motion.

    Re: Noise While Accelerating

I have the same noise as well. I put a stethoscope up to the turbo and that was where the rattle was the loudest. I have a new turbo laying around so, I'm going to install it anyways just because the car has 142k miles on it. While I'm there I'm also going to make sure that the exhaust manifold bolts are tight beacuse, they will start to loosen up at the back section as well. I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

    Re: Noise While Accelerating

Alright, I took the turbo out and found that the wastegate flap was loose, which created the ratlle. Replaced the turbo and no more noise.

oil pick up tube is clogged I done a ton of searching about this late last year. the 1.8t are extremely prone to sludging up clogging your pick up tube.. you either need to change or clean your oil pick up drop subframe oil pan and clean/change ..

I'm fairly certain every car will have some variation of a pick up tube. The pickup tube is where oil from your oil pan is pulled into the oiling system.

yeah i'm with believer I don't have a 2.8 but you have to have some sort of pick up tube if i'm not mistaken I believe you have two. if you have a chain on metal sound at low and high oil pressures its one of two things pick up screen slugged or your cam chain tensioner and/or chain is on its way out. and I am 100% certain that 2.8's have two cam chain tensioners and chains.
easiest way to tell if its the pickup tube is to hook a oil pressure gauge up and check your oil pressure.

EDIT: found a general idea of what pressure you should be running compliments of walky_talky

Generally, the 1.8T's top end will start getting noisier once the oil pressure gets below 20psi or so.

Just checked my oil pressure after my drive home to be sure:
    Idle: 26 psi
    2k: 55 psi
    3k: 70 psi
    4k: 80 psi
    5k: 95 psi
