tranny crapped out

details to come - need to pull it out. i knew this was coming, so no big shock - but i need a new (or used) one ASAP. PM me or post if you have a line on a 5 or 6 speed that will just bolt in. no i'm not fucking with new drive shafts, rear diffs/axles etc (like a s4 tranny). i just want a transmission that i can bolt in and go - no matter what it is. best price on something that can hold me for a few months (preferably more) wins.

I was partially right. One car is a CVT but the other is a 3.0 6spd (thought it was a 1.8 5spd).

Dunno if a 3.0 6spd can bolt up to a 1.8. Dunno if the 6spd uses a shorter driveshaft than a 5spd trans. Dunno if the 6spd uses a different rear differential gear ratio than a 5spd car.

yeah, it's all good - this just happened a little sooner than expected. i pulled out of a stop sign and shifted and knew instantly that something felt EXTREMELY out of place. the best way to describe it was it felt like i went from the crisp, confident feel of the JHM (if you have one you know) to something that felt softer going in to gear than stock. all the "notch" feel of going in to gear was gone completely and after that it just did NOT want to cooperate and only got worse on the drive home.

thank god i had a friend driving in front of me so i could go REALLY slow up to red lights while he sped ahead to trip them. and it was late - a couple times i drove in circles in the middle of the street waiting for the light to change lol

yeah i know. i've got a few options now and i'm weighing them out. i just wish there was a transmission i could buy with confidence...

the main three things are:
cost
milage/usage
strength

so far of my 3 best options they all encompass those in different ways..

yours is potentially stronger and the best price
the other is newest and a decent price but no stronger
the last is a little cheaper than the second, potentially stronger, but also a 2.8 and with higher milage

see how that makes things kinda hard?

Yeah you should only have to swap tail housings and driveshaft flanges and then you're good to go. There is speculation that the older 5 speeds are stronger than the new ones

Speculation? Let me know when a B6 5 speed is able to handle launch after launch while running 10's and making over 500whp.


The issue isn't the transmission, its the driver that cant shift right and what is put in the transmission to prep it for power. I laugh when people tell me that I am just lucky.

I already stripped 3rd gear once and I wasn't making as much power as his setup.

Correct. I run 2L of Motul or Redline and 1L of Shock, plus solid mounts all the way around.

One thing the person needs to do is DONT bang the shifter while the clutch pedal is not pushed all the way in. This is why I take my time during shifts in my car and it has worked up till now. I think most people tend to get in a hurry while trying to shift fast, shifting smoothly is more important since smooth = fast without causing issues.
