did you check your cam and follower before adding the apr pump? if so, how many miles have you put on since then? I hear its 2-3k from another forum. btw i like kmd but that follower also gets some harsh words on another forum because it does not have the DLC coating which protects it.

I feel your pain. I recently got a new camshaft in my B7 because I wanted to ditch the "A" revision that came in my car. Unfortunately, this is a common issue with the FSI engines. That's why the TSI engines have roller cam followers. Either way, as I discussed with your Father on the phone, here are the steps: (posting this so others can learn)

1. Determine if your camshaft is revision "A" (old) or revision "B" (newer with improved hardness on pump lobe, but not perfect). If you have revision "A", it may be a good idea to change the cam while you have the opportunity.

Just turn the engine 90-degrees and you get the picture.

2. If you have the "B" revision cam, measure the lift on the lobes (should be three 5mm lifts per revolution of the cam, this is what lifts the fuel pump).

3. If you have the "B" cam and wear on the lobes is minimal, you can replace the cam follower (which is actually what we )know is shot on your car right now, we don't know enough about the cam yet) with a new one. The trick is to add a good assembly lube between the new follower and cam surface so that the surfaces don't start dry after the assembly. The assembly lube should be a high-quality moly lube (molybdenum disulfied) which as much moly content as possible.

We've tried them in our transverse cars. I can't give you a direct comparo because we do alot more headwork than just cams while we are in there. Roughly $4k will get you a completely reworked head that includes those cams and is very nice as a package and I'm sure the cams are a large part of the increases. I will call it a 40whp increase on a Stage 3 for now but will have more info in the coming weeks.

What happened? Hole in follower? Damage to actual cam? Any damage to pump piston?
Did you discover this during a routine inspection? I thought your cam and follower were ok - at least that was what you were saying when you had those problems with your chip.

To replace my cam and follower it was roughly 1200$ at Wolfcars Motorsport.

The cam itself is not that expensive, its the labor involved.

They were, but at the last minute they said no, because they had just replaced my cv joints and rs4 motor mounts. Plus I still have warranty.

Thing is that the week before, they took really good care of me, and stuck AoA with some parts and labor that I should have paid. For the cam to be replaced under warranty, I would have had leave the car in Naples FL., and pick it up in a few days. However I rented a trailer and towed my bitch home.
