This indy wants $75 to run codes on my car.

He laughed at me for going to Autozone and getting the codes read, stating that "their little cute machine won't discover anything," maybe true, but is $75 justifiable?

Does anyone know where in Long Island I can get this taken care of without being anally probed? Many places say they don't have the cord needed.

No. It takes 5 mins. That's ridiculous. Autozone can read the codes. Then you have to call Audi and tell them what the numbers/errors were and they can look them up for you. I would assume for free. You should go to a local tuner shop. They should have VAG COM and should be able to pull codes for you. Hopefully for free or maybe 20-40 bucks if they are cool.

The people at the indy shop are a bunch of assholes. All you need is a 15 dollar cable, free software (I'm pretty sure you can use the free version for reading), and a computer (preferably a laptop).

Get a the cable from Ross-tech and you will save many trips to the indy!

Go to the regional forums, someone on there will definitely help you out for free or for damn near free. Even $40 is too much, considering you can get a cheap ebay cable for $15 (limited features). $75 is a joke, and I'd personally never go back to that shop again. They lied about Autozone, then they try to charge you 5 times what you should pay.

This was in Philly. My roommate went to autozone to get his evo scanned. I have my own scanning devices.

That's the impression I was under, since the B7 went CAN-BUS. I tried to get the cheap VAG-COM cable to pull codes and it wouldn't. The CAN-BUS enabled one can and the AutoZone code reader can pull CEL's. Not sure about codes stored in the computer that don't trip the CEL.

Then yeah to read CEL's you need the $75 dollar CAN-BUS cable or go to Autozone. I had a CEL and it pulled it for me no problems. Just a $150 deposit.

When I was 16 and had just got my b5 I paid some Yako 60 bucks to run my codes . Its because of this Yako that I will never trust any shop again . But that's a whole other story F-in Yakos
