    New A6 3.0T??

So at work today we got a new A6 3.0 T. Yes the new super charged A6, and to my suprize it has a T on the trunk. But I thought T was for Turbo or along those lines. But then i thought ohh well they cant really do a S since S4 S6 S8 kinda along that track. i mean a A6 3.0S seems kinda weird, but the supercharger is pretty small looking if you think about big muscle with one or some after market tuners and stuff but it really is a sharp car and the wheels it had on it were pretty cool for a stock A6.

Im pretty sure its the same supercharger that will be available in the S4 so once the tuners get a hold of it they should be able to pump out some nice hp from the A6

wonder if audi tuned down the a6 version of the motor a bit, compared to the s4 version.. like audi did with the b5 version with the 2.7t

i forget where i saw that the t can stand for supercharger somewhere in the german repetoire.

i dont like the superchargers on audis. i mean its no doubt a good engine but it dont make sense to me for an audi to have a supercharger.

They could have used K for Kompressor, but I guess they didn't want to be perceived as following MB. Not convinced T for a supercharged car makes sense.

    Re: New A6 3.0T??

yea i felt the same way. Also i think it makes like 300hp right now in that A6 and the S4 is supposed to be on par with the old V8 S4 i think and more TQ. But yes the supercharger is small but yes after some tuners get a hold of it or on the S4 then it should be a bit quicker.

    Re: New A6 3.0T??

    From Autoweek:

The decision to adopt supercharging is clearly out of step with the trend toward turbocharging being pursued by most of Audi's executive-class rivals. However, a desire to engineer an engine with instantaneous torque at launch, something deemed important in the U.S. market, led to turbocharging being sidestepped in favor of supercharging.
The same 3.0-liter engine, in a 330-hp state of tune, will replace the more potent but less efficient 4.2-liter V8 in the next S4.

The U.S. A6, due in January as a 2009 model, will be tuned for 300 hp
So, I guess the A6 will be tuned down from the S4

    Re: New A6 3.0T??

if the A6 has a tuned down version of the S4's engine it should be relatively easy to get it over 330hp (S4 level)

The C5 A6 2.7T was slightly detuned compared to the S4's... I know that for a fact

yet with an aftermarket tune, it put the power right back up to those S4's with a tune as well

What do you mean? They both made 250hp. The 04 (and 03?) C5 2.7t S-lines made more actually (265)

yes this is true... that's because they utilized the sammmme hardware and maintain the same tuning potential as the S4. To me they seemingly have more potential since their engine bay is larger (larger turbos(or singular))... since htey came with the 4.2 in later versions, i would imagine it would be possible to throw some RS6 turbos or the full motor in it also..

I'm looking forward to what kind of power this car is going to make once GIAC/APR get their hands on it

i believe it's a slightly less aggressive tune (kind of like how GIAC is more aggressive than APR).. they both make near the same power, but it's just a different delivery

That's an odd definition of "detuned" with regard to stock specs. Usually when you're talking about factory specs, detuned means less power, not the more subtle aspects of delivery.

And what do you mean they make near the same power? I just showed you they make exactly the same power, in fact the late model C5 S-lines make more.

PS: Can you post up a chart of their respective hp/tq curves? I'd be curious to see how much the delivery differs.

    Re: New A6 3.0T??

I'm not pissed. I just corrected you on 1 "fact" (detuned, i.e. factory-rated power output) and asked you for verification of the other (delivery characteristics). Don't get defensive if your earlier misinformation was corrected.

And I was serious about the latter. I'd like to see how the B5 and C5 deliver curves differ
