For those considering an APR Flash/Stratmosphere Short Shift

** PLEASE NOTE I AM NOT A CAR EXPERT, JUST A NORMAL GUY WHO LOVES HIS CAR. EVERYTHING STATED IS OPINION AND YOU MAY FEEL DIFFERENT. THIS IS SIMPLY TO HELP THOSE WHO MAY BE IN A SIMILAR SITUATION.**

Hello again. After the feedback with my last post I decided to continue "documenting" me mods. For those who are interested in Milltek Non-Res catback check out the following thread of mine:

    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=253346

I decided to go for it and get the short shift kit 40% reduction from Stratmosphere. I was a bit skeptical at first as our shifter flows so nicely, but I decided what the hell and went for it. First off I got this installed by a professional body shop and it ran me $200. This isn't just an hour quick install, so if you aren't that great with cars you should keep this in mind before purchasing.

When I first was testing the shifted, it was really stiff. I was worried that they put it in wrong or that it just had a poor fit. After a few days of driving it broke in nicely and I couldn't even tell the difference from the stock shifter (Same hight and same look, but with 40% less throw). I love this!! Great mod and what really sold me was the fact that this is one of the most used parts to the car. I still am getting tricked up thinking I am not in gear it shifts so short and smoothly, but I am sure like the stiffness, that too will go away in time.

I also installed the Hyperflow CAI, but I won't go there. I installed the CAI and the chip at the same time so I have no clue if it did anything. All I know is that if someone opens the hood they see a CAI and say, nice induction system, and I say "ya dude sweet right on" or something like that. Maybe it is good maybe it is worse that stock. Either way I got it with the chip.

NOW, I went with the APR 93 Octane flash because the shop I use is a certified APR mechanic. Throttle is increased nicely, top end pulls better, and I can definetely feel the car with a nice increase in power. I really like the chip and can definetely tell a noticible difference. The red line has moved up to around 7500 and I got some chick wet when I hit 100 in third no problem. Of course I think we could do that stock, but this chip definetely pulls better. I know there is a B6 challenge out there which compares everything, but I am writing because reading peoples experiences mean more to me than HP gains. From my understanding we can tune for HP or tune for speed, it all depends what we are going for.

Long paragraph short -- I love this chip. My car is without doubt a bit quicker now with these few mods. While I am not trying to take this car to the track and beat the suped up B5's, M3's, and Corvettes, lets be honest with ourselves. Who really cares? Our car has so much luxury and class, and our V8 sounds amazing.

And for those who were wondering -- Yes, having a B6 S4 gets you laid.

Once I get my APR DP's in another month to compliment my Milltek Non-Res catback, I will get the car dynod, take videos, and document that experience so that everyone knows about what this particular set-up can do. I am sure this is by no means a rare setup, but another test subject couldnt hurt anyone. (Except the test subject )

As always please shoot me a PM if you want to talk about anything or have some APR DP's for sale. Hope this helps others in my situation. I mean if you guys are like me, you can't get enough of hearing about what others mods have done for their baby's.

2 hundo for a SS install? You must be growing a money tree in your backyard. Why not have your tuner do the install for one hour labor? If you call any indy, I doubt they will charge much more than 1-1.5 hours. Probably less if it isn't the older JHM... I had my Neuspeed installed in my USP and got charged one hour. I'm going to have the JHM installed in my Cab once the weather is nicer and was quoted an hour as well.

I also went with the APR tune in my S4 tip - then test drove a stock S4 6spd. There was a noticeable difference - other mods at the time were Hyperflow Intake and Milltek non-res. I' don't want to repeat with the APR, thinking maybe GIAC this time for the Cab. Both tuners are local. I am also doing a flat panel instead of Hyperflow, but for cosmetic appeal a Carbonio would look nice.

Very nice! Where are you in CT and did you get it done at ICS? Seeing as they're an APR dealer.

Nice call. I did use ICS Tuners. The cars they work with there are really nice, and I saw 4 S4's and an RS4 my first visit, so i felt safe going there.

While I don't have a money tree, I am incompetent. I would rather go with people who have done it a handful of times rather than people who could just figure it out. ICS Performance is a very reputable company so that is why I am sticking with them.

Charles, I work in Stamford -- about a mile away from ICS, so that is another huge reason I use them. Drop car off and can pick up on way back (that is when I am not taking the train).

Nice, I live in Darien so I'm close by. Do you have a silver b6 s4? I was there last week sometime and saw a silver B6 with an exhaust in the parking lot.

You gotta tell george or "Big" Al @ ICS to do more tuning on the B5 s4 rather than mainly evos and subarus
