    i just did a pair on an a6. the seals are like 20 each but you are prob getting charged 4 hours of labor. 2 each side which is fair considering the job. it will prob only take the tech an hour but you have to rememeber they are out to make money.
    i heart my s4

    Re: rear axle seals leaking?

    I just did this job at my buddies shop. We dropped the whole rear diff and changed out all three seals at the same time. The seals leaking is a common problem. Doing this at home in your garage would be painful. It is so much easier when you have a lift. You should be ok for a 500 mile trip although they could have topped off your fluid or checked it. Anyway I would get it fixed as soon as you get a chance.

    I believe these are the correct part numbers but please verify with your parts guy:
    Front seal for rear diff = 857-525-275 qty.1
    rear diff axle seals = 016-409-399-b qty.2
    Rear diff driveshaft bolts = n-019-926-1 qty.6
    Fluid = G 005 000 qty.2
