    Keep blowing fuse.!?!?!?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have replaced the right headlight fuse 3 times and it has blown every time. I am using the 15 amp fuse that is recommended. I know the bulb works because the fuse will work for about a minute and then it burns out.
The bulbs have been working in the car for over 6 months, with no problems...
What could be causing this fuse to blow repeatedly?
Im sick of driving around full of the fear of getting pulled over.
    Thanks in advance guys

double check the wires from the headlights, maybe the shielding on one of the wires is gone and is causing it to short out and blow the fuse...

Just put a piece of metal in there instead of a fuse. You'll be fine.

On a serious note, check your wires. You may have a cut wire and a short somewhere.

    Re: Keep blowing fuse.!?!?!?

does the fuse short out the same time every single time. For instance, my buddy had this problem on his 300zx so i helped him diagnose.

First we bought a lot of fuses and then tried to figure out when the headlights turn off (AKA fuse blows) because it was intermittent and sometimes took longer than other times. After about 6 fuses we figured out that the headlights would cut out as soon as the clutch was pushed in. So i started to dig deeper. It turned out that whoever installed his boost gauge ran the wire under his clutch pedal and when he pressed on the clutch the pedal would then pierce the wire causing a short hence, the lights would go out.

So first of all you need to find out when exactly the headlight goes out in order to figure out the cause. We all know these audis are filled with 700 thousand pounds of wiring so it would be easier for you to find the initial cause before anything.

I had the same problem one time after I hit a deer. The mechanic that had fixed it, had one of the wires from the headlight pinched against a bracket. I relocated the wire, and it fixed it. Check that out if nothing else works.

    Re: Keep blowing fuse.!?!?!?

First thing, fuse 20 is a 10 amp fuse so if you are blowing a 15 that quickly your prolbem will be pretty obvious. You should start out by switching your headlight bulbs to see if fuse 21 for your left headlight will blow. Even though your light still works I have seen them blow fuses while working. Check the wires coming out of the connector at the head lamp. If you have a yellow/white wire (for the low beam) then check for that wire to have a short to ground between the headlamp and the fuse box (most likely by the headlamp). If your wire is a yellow/brown wire then check for a short between the headlamp and the rear lamp control module (yellow/brown for Pin 14 and yellow/white for pin 15 at the module) and then between the lamp control module and the fuse. These modules do go out from time to time as well so it is something you might want to check out. Hope this helps.

Sorry for the newb thread jack but where is the fuse box on the S4? Is it in the normal place under the steering column? I need to check the fuse for my Fuel Pump.
