this is exactly the setup that i have right now. b5 s4 calipers, pads & rotors up front with stock a4 lines. the rears are all stock a4.

yes, he already has the caliper carriers for the B5 S4's. I recommend some ss lines to finish off the job w/some Motul 5.1 brake fluid.

A BBK (say Stoptech 332) and B5 S4 fronts are about the same size rotor. Brake force is different due to the different caliper designs. What will the brake bias be with, say.... a Stoptech 332 up front and B5 S4 front out back... I do not know but it'll probably won't be too good for an optimum brake system.

What I am getting at, is you have to be careful with brake bias. For optimum [shortest] stopping distance you want to be balanced. You also have to take into account the master cylinder size and ABS system.



Oh, the B5 S4 front also has no provision for a parking brake cable so to be DOT compliant you'll have to fab up a second caliper that works with a cable.








Personally, I would not deter too far from a factory system and/or BBK system designed around the factory components. Two four-wheel packages that are complete for use with the B6 A4 master cylinder are a factory B6 S4 and the STaSiS / Alcon front and rear set-up. There may be others but those are all I can think of off the top of my head.


Don't cheat with brakes. Do it right and do it once. Factory engineers and aftermarket company engineers (STaSiS and StopTech for example) have 'crunched the numbers'. No sense in re-inventing the wheel.

I've been running B5S4 fronts with the B6 OEM 1.8T rears for years and haven't run into any problems at all with them. (other than crap stainless lines)

I have the same set-up except I'm using OEM rubber lines.

I have found the [new] ECS stainless lines are not an easy fitment. They don't fit into the hard line brackets without getting the file out. Just did a set on a B5 A4 and we had to grind every metal bracket to get the lines to fit.

no, they will not. very few 16" wheels will clear the calipers, the A6 2.7T 16" rims will though because they came with the same HP-2 calipers and rotors as the B5S4 . they can be found on ebay every once in a while.

I don't think so.... outright.

You'll need new caliper brackets since the B5 A4 uprights have a different caliper bracket mounting spacing versus the B5 S4 and B6 A4.

shoulda been, but i wasn't. guess the alloys are us spokes are pretty fat. i dont' clear the brakes. now i need spacers.. sigghhh

just installed mine with hawk hps pads. also did rear hps pads, but kept everything from stock b6 rear.

now i realize that my tires are pretty worn because i lock up when i brake hard. i love the brake feel.

i also reused my stock brake lines. that was more from me being hesitant about ss lines. i've heard that they need to be checked pretty regularly, and some of them corrode. i figured i liked the feel enough that i'd be ok, and i love them so far.

also, i have stock 17" sport wheels, and it barely fits, but fits nonetheless.

yeah all the reps are diff. buddy of mine has 18x8.5 ET35 RS4 reps on his C5 A6 w/HP2s, and no clearance issues
