Injector has white crust all over it

Worst thread title ever, yes. So tonight when I installed my new injectors, I noticed one of my stock ones had this white crust all over it. All the others were kind of covered in dirt, but that's to be expected. Any idea what this is or if it could mean that something is wrong?

On the same note, when I started my car after installing the new ones (not flashed for them yet), the car was really rough and only had -4 on my boost gauge. So I shut it off, let it sit another minute then turned it back on. It was still kind of rough but it seemed to be idling right where it should be, does that mean I actually installed them correctly?

i wouldnt be running 386 injectors for more than a drive into the shop from the parking lot...

not sure what the white is but i would not drive with all that extra fuel.. you will be running WAY rich ... which could result in rich misfires ... which sounds like what is happening.. and that can destroy your cat real fast!

Oh I won't be. I'm actually really nervous about driving to the shop considering it's a few miles away, but I really don't have any choice. It's a tiny place and he def won't let me do it right in his parking lot. In retrospect I probably should've just gone there at like 630am before he gets there and do it, but then again I didn't know how easy it was until I tried it myself.

It's on a main street, no parking along the sides. Anyways, too late now, I think I'll be alright making it there as long as I don't hit boost.

Got my flash done earlier, car feels a lot better now. On my way there I was getting 28mpg (city driving) so either my gas mileage problem was related to one of the injectors or the fact that I normally drive like an ass haha. Didn't hit boost the whole way there, which is about 8 miles, and the car drove fine.

Still wondering if that white stuff is anything to worry about or just discolored dirt.

ecu cluster doesnt know u have bigger injectors,there for it may seem you hve higher mpg...but in reality that thing is not accurate. Use a vagcom to change it.

Got APR, which I'm very happy with, but if I go BT then I'll be kicking myself.

And thanks for the info Vinny, I haven't been able to get VAGCOM to work on my computer since I replaced the hard drive in it. Haven't had much time to screw around with it and figure it out.

The ECU will compensate for the richness when it reads the O2 sensor, though it may push the limits of the correction factor and throw a CEL, but you got your flash so you're ok now.

The white crusty stuff could be coolant but I'm not sure. Maybe just something that got spilled on the top of the engine while being serviced, and it dried on.

What shop did you get it done at? I'll be doing the same soon and looking for a place in the boston area.

Looks like dried lithium grease that somone may have used to help install the injectors in the past.

Could also be coolant. Mine leaked a little at the purge bolt at the top by the intake mani because I didn't tighten it enough one time after flushing out coolant. The coolant leaked down and made that same crust around one of the middle two injectors.
