Hey everybody 1st time poster here. I need some advise on brakes. I need new rear rotors and pads. Would it be wise to upgrade my rear brakes to S4 brakes on my 05 quattro with a sport package. Or just replace my rotors and pads with oem or equivalent. Thanks

    Re: rear brakes

You'd also need the calipers as well if you switch since the S4 uses Vented rotos. Not sure the benefit would justify the cost in your case. That's your decision to make though........but it would be kinda cool I have to admit

    Re: rear brakes

I found the calipers for $225 for the pair. Does that sound like a decent deal?

    Re: rear brakes

3.0 brake conversion is a nice option as well. Uses stock 1.8 caliper and a different carrier(hanger) to adapt to the larger rotor. I can't remember diameter off the top of my head. Look in the stickies, there is more info there. All you need is new rotors, pads (which you would need anyway) and 2 carriers.

i wrote previous post assuming you have 1.8t engine. if you do it right you don't even have to bleed system!

there 255mm and the 1.8 is 245mm both are 10mm wide and solid and the s4 is 300mmx22mm vented. to convert to the s4 rears you would need calipers, carriers, rotors, and dust shields but thats just what i can think of of the top of my head at 1 am lol

I've heard that some late model 1.8ts came with 255mm rears.

    Re: rear brakes

For the price of S4 rears you might as well just buy Alcon rears for cheaper.

    B5 S4 rears won't fit the B6 chassis.

You play the game of how much money is worth it.

Rear brakes do not do that much on the B6 A4. OEM B6 A4 has 68% of the braking done up front and 32% done out back (brake bias). Therefore, vented versus solid rear brakes is almost a mute point for street usage. One is not going to get the rear brakes hot enough to benefit from a vented set-up.
