I have decided to change my mind and drop the Scat rods from my built and go for the Pauters instead.

That is all for now (unless I change my mind again).

They would have to be custom made...pure overkill for the 20VT Maybe you will see them in Sarabi's 2.0TFSI

    They have nice stuff too!

However I'd go with Carrillo first. Maybe I'll go for the Pauter Titaniums!

Re: I'm sure to the dismay of some but then to the happiness of others...

Call Brian Crower direct and talk to him. They can make anything you want. However, Pauter make great rods. Even Eagle are great rods. People will smack talk all day long, but several high-HP drag cars use Eagle and Pauter rods, so they surely aren't crap. Good choice!

EDIT: Arrow rods are overrated and too expensive, unless you are shelling out the cash to over-build the rest of the engine and car, and are going to push serious PSI and very high revs for prolonged periods of time.

Glad to see you going with the rods you want not the rods you were told you should buy. In the end its your money and your choice which is all that counts.

    Thanks Mike.

One thing is for sure my engine builder says that the Pauters can take more of a beating than the Scats, period.

Is it overkill for my motor? Maybe or maybe not but I'm not taking any chances.

To me it's worth the extra money to have peace of mind.

And for all those that want to turn this into a pissing contest, don’t bother.

1- My engine builder has installed Scats in some engine rebuilds and likes them but in my motor suggested to go with something better.

2- Don’t give me “my engine builder is making more money off the Pauters” argument because he’s not selling them to me but a third party is providing most of the engine components for the build.

While we are on the subject of Pauter rods might as well tell you something else I learned today from them.

When you order rods from them you can ask for this nice little option at no additional cost to you.

Nice! Are you going with EDM pin oiling also? I'm looking around and learning about options to go with. Do you think it's worth the extra $200?

    Negative.

Pauter told me they charge at least $50 per rod for that option so you are right; expect at least another $200 on top of their prices for a set of four rods.

Here's what my engine builder and Pauter said about EDM pin oiling.

Both said it was not necessary and in fact a big portion of the VW and Audi engines (including the 1.8T) on the road don't even have that option. Why some 1.8Ts have the extra lubrication and some don't only VAG could tell you.

The "grooved" type rods are used on stock rods in BMW, Honda and many more brands of cars.

BTW, I inquired about a set of Pauter Titanium rods for my motor and he said that each rod would cost over $1000! That a bit too rich for me.

Mike... I'm sure if you look at pictures of the Titanium ones long enough you'll succumb to temptation.

Can I say this on this forum...

I looked at them for a few milliseconds and I had a hard on! :-)

BTW, the Titanium they use is very rare and supplies are very limited thus the price and a long wait for them if you decide to get them.

IIRC Issam pretty much said the EDM is really just to help when using the car at low rpms, not exactly something you plan on doing all that much while racing.

BTW the Pauters I have had in my car for 6 years did not come with any of these options seeing that these options were not offered at the time.
