Need Help replacing my shattered window please :)

So the story is I got my 2003 1.8tq broke into on new years eve. They shattered the window completely. I called and got quotes from pretty much every single body shop in town and got quoted from 210$ to 420$ to replace the window and install. I called a local audi dealership and said they could get me a new window for 65.50$ (its the passenger side front window.) So I'm contemplating replacing the window glass myself. Has anyone done this before? do you have any pics? I found the thread about replacing the window regulator, would I have to follow pretty much the same steps? and do you think I should do it myself or pay to have it done. Thanks in advance

my friend got his prelude broken into on new years on the drivers side and paid $120 installed for a new window. But since you drive a audi its probably double.

Id use the DIY write up. And yes, you would have to follow all the steps to be able to remove the window. The only thing that would be a potential problem that I see is mounting the two black plastic pieces onto the new window properly. If your good at this stuff, do it yourself. If your a little unsure of yourself, just pay the 250 and get it done professionally. I remember thinking that replacing the window regulator would be hard but it turned out easier than I thought. Good luck.

Honestly, if I were you I would def. do it myself. I have never replaced window glass on my Audi. However I used to work at an Infiniti dealership in West Chester, and I have done many many windows there. I'm sure they are very similar as far as procedure goes. Take the inside door panel off, Disconnect the harnesses for window switches, speakers etc. Your over half way there already. Then there should be one bolt (prob. 10 mm) at the front edge and rear edge of the window. Remove them, pull glass, replace glass, complete in reverse order. And seriously, you should at least tinker around with it for a little bit to see if you think you can do it. Cuz It is really simple and for only 65 dollars it is totally worth it.

If the window that comes from the dealer is equipped with the plastic pieces that are used to attach the window to the door frame then you are all set:

Here is the DIY - Courtesy of nanotech of AudiWorld <- Same write up I used to change my front passenger window regulator, just take your time and you will do fine. For $70 from the dealer I think its more than worth it. Good Luck.
