Just picked one of these bad boys up yesterday.

20Gb media player that replaces my 6 disc cd changer and has functionality via stock HU.

    Anyone else using this?

    Re: PhatNoise digital music player

I've actually got two (funny story, kind of), neither installed but from what I hear it's great. There have been topics about this in the past if you search. Anyway, I'm looking forward to installing one of them and selling the other.

I also plan on installing a bigger hard drive (60-80 gigs) in the future. www.phathack.com if you want some more info.

I have one. It is ok. I do not like the fact that you do not get any info on the radio display. It is nice to have a large hard drive that basically stays in the car, but ideally I would love to find an ipod interface that shows the info on the radio, uses the radio controls, and allows you to still hook up the phatnoise.

    Re: PhatNoise digital music player

so how do you like the system? I finally got around to installing mine a few weeks ago and I just finished installing the 160gig drive last night. I love it. I've only got 14 gigs of music on there now but it's growing by the day as I'm slowly converting all the albums.

I like showing off the voice feature =) ~ it is pretty clever and got me by surprise... I didn't know it talked before installing it

I'm happy with it and only have about 5 gigs stored so far

Yeah, I have one and I love it. I just missed some of the functionality that I used to have before I got my RNS-E, but I'm used to it now. I have the 20 gig and have thousands of songs on it.

    Re: PhatNoise digital music player

Ipod isn't as easy as a solution as replacing the CD changer with the Phatbox. Now I still have the same functionality I have gotten used to the last 5 years with my CD changer and stock HU. ConcertI benefits well... And the Ipod doesn't talk!

    Re: PhatNoise digital music player

oc - I'm ignorant about "ConcertI"; and you're right, my ipod is speechless.

But... with ipod I see the list of tracks in album, albums in playlist, etc. Can sort the library in lots of ways, easily switch artist, see the track I'm jumping to, or just use song shuffle. How do you know what's available with phat? My thinking was that ipod is the far "easier" way. I just mounted my little fellow in eye's reach (it has its own little drawer for wire and nano storage), I can grab any music I want to, and can add new music with itunes anytime. Seems to me apple's music technology gives ipod huge advantage over big 8-track like system in trunk. I was "used to" '45s, cassettes, at one point or another .... Get with the program, oc!

It's a big dock, but tucks away nicely in the trunk storage space
When you scroll albums, it speaks out the album name, same as browsing by artist. There is no track name speech which is sort of a bummer, and no text other than CD1TR## ~ but I can scroll quick albums/artists/playlists quickly while keeping my eyes on the road

    Re: PhatNoise digital music player

It is nice to have the songs in the car at all times, but I really wish I could see what I have stored. It takes a while to scroll through the albums or playlists when you have a lot. I wish it had some other way of scrolling then simply going to say playlists, and then scroll up or down. If I can find a suitable iPod solution that I can control and see through my radio, and utilize the steering wheel controls, I may be selling my phatnoise. I'll hit you up Stampy if i do to see if you are interested. I would sell it to you at a very reasonable price.

so you have to listen while phat speaks names of albums as you scroll thru many gigs of music? ouch!

well, it's still better than radio plus 6 cds

    Indeed better than the 6cd

as far as browsing... I guess I have a good memory and kinda know what is where so it doesn't bother me in the least ~ i keep the albums sorted by my upload date so that could help.

Maybe if I actually had an Ipod, this could be a different thread all together
