I'm part way through negotiations on a Monza Silver S-Line

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    2.0T S-Line, MSRP $43,6xx.

I drove a Prestige with Drive Select immediately before driving a Prem+ with Sport Package and darn it if I didn't like the feel of the Sport Package sans ADS better.

I wanted the Nav/camera and ADS mostly for the gee-whizness of it, but I can live without at a savings of $6400.

I started with an initial offer of Invoice+$200, which they rejected as expected.

I walked out of there with their counteroffer on the table of $42,6xx.

Now I wait for the phone call...

While I was there I sat in an S8. Any of you guys ever sit in one of those? Holy foo they're swanky! Heated cupholders, retracting tweeters, V10 engine. Damn!

We settled on a price and I left a deposit. Expected delivery date is March 9.

I'll admit I've had some second thoughts on this car though. The other car I'm entertaining thoughts of is a 335i xDrive sedan, mostly because BMW has better financing. I much prefer the A4 interior and appointments, but I can get a more expensive car (the BMW) for less financed money. I'm also told the BMW leasing program is better and their cars don't depreciate in value as sharply as Audis. Of course the BMW is faster. I'm over going balls-to-the-wall, but fast is nice when you need it.

"They" say this is a good time to buy a car because of all the sales incentives and low interest financing. Audi though seems to be the only manufacturer to not have any incentives, so these days are no better than any other days to buy an A4. Therefore, buying an Audi during this recession probably doesn't make any financial sense...but I want it.

Someone talk some sense into me!

A lot may change by March, and we could certainly see some real incentives from Audi by then. I guess it really depends on how badly you want/need a new car, and what you can afford.

I'm hoping something changes by March, just so I feel better about it. I want more than I need, and either way I wouldn't be hurting financially, so I'll likely buy it regardless. When someone (i.e., BMW) offers lower interest financing it's hard for me to pass up though. Their recent 0.9% interest offer would have meant nearly-free financing so I could put the money towards something else or just hang onto it in case I lay myself off from my job. But when it came down to it, I wanted the A4 more than the 335. I'm a victim of passion!

When I finally lay eyes on the S-Line I'm sure it'll all be forgotten.

I contacted a few other dealerships in order to get price quotes, and they all told me that none were even available for order in this region. I suppose I'd have to look nationwide.

We too were looking at an S line, and it's what I really want. But, it's not what we need. For another $5ish grand we might as well wait for the new S4.

Re: I'm part way through negotiations on a Monza Silver S-Line

    to the OP,

let's ignore the cost to keep a car out for now.

so $42,XXX will only get you a darn B8 A4 s-line and that is still a 4 banger with a small snail.

you aren't too far off from getting a spanking new 08 RS4 or a nicely used RS4.

I would strongly suggest that you take your deposit back and wait!!! it's just not worth it. other car companies are giving out much better deals than Audi.
why you want to screw yourself in the Ass by buying that B8 and taking on the depreciation?

if you give me specific numbers by pm then I can give you some calculations on financing. I just don't see the reason why you want to buy a B8 A4 when audi isn't giving much of a deal of that awkward looking car.

We were thinking about waiting for the S4 too, because that'd be REALLY kick-ass. My problem is that I have too little impulse control and find myself putting my foot in it any time I'm behind the wheel of a powerful car. I'm sure my gas mileage would drop into the teens in an S4! Plus my wife and daughters are scared chitless enough as it is when I drive. I think the price difference would be much more than $5K though. More like $15K I'm guessing.

I know, I know! There was a nice used RS4 here half a year ago for about the same price. As much as I'd like it, a car like that doesn't fit my (i.e., my wife's) needs. We're looking for a comfy, plush-yet-sporty, high-ish mileage grocery getter/road trip car.

If it were up to me and me only, I'd have a 911 C4S right now...

when it comes to Audi, buying new you are always at the dealerships mercy. They don't offer great incentives (if any at all), especially now since they are doing better than BMW/Mercedes right now, and they depreciate like shit. From personal experience buying used is the best way of going when it comes to Audi because they are at your mercy and you can really pull off amazing deals. The biggest trade off of course is that you may not always find exactly what you are looking for. Honestly, I say get your deposit back since you are having second thoughts and get a used RS4 for that kind of money. In a few years it will still be worth more than a brand new 45k 4-banger B8 A4.

Well I was comparing a fully loaded B8 A4 to the estimated price of a bone stock B8 S4, but yeah.

Thumbs up Re: I'm part way through negotiations on a Monza Silver S-Line

Heres what i ordered last week, maybe this will help someone in negotiating. 2009 A4 2.0T.Brillaint Black, 6 speed manual, Navigation, Prestige, S-Line package(interior/exterior) MSRP was $45,775 Edmunds TMV pricing $45,474, Invoice 42,582. I talked the dealer down to final cost $41,855.40. about 700 under invoice. I ordered the last day of the december rates whereas 51% residual and .00169 money factor. I put tax and fees up front totaling 3,200 monthly payments for the lease are $635.00.(650.00 if you want the automatic). I went to about 6 dealers in New york and New jersey and this was the best deal i could get, most other places didnt even want to match the price.

Thanks for the info. I did see your data as I was in negotiations, but didn't get anywhere close to that deal.

Sounds like you are pretty close to a deal there. Prem+ w/Sport pkg is sweet and it's bargain at $1450. It sucks that Audi stopped their incentives on 1/5. Dumb move on their part. BMW xdrive is worthless.

And yes the S8 is an incredible car. So much better than a S63 or 750i.
