    K04... Worth it?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So i'm getting a free K04 it needs to get rebuilt and I'm looking at sending it to blouch to get it done and having them stick a bigger compressor in it which they claim will support 270hp.. Total cost aroung $700.. what do you think? Worth it? With that bigger compressor will I need a custom program. I'm running Uni now.

Uni can do custom for you..

700$ is almost the price of a brand new K04..so yeah.

Ya got to pay-2-play reguardless of the which turbo & software you pick!

While some will say "skip" the K04, its all about what you want, and how much power your trying to get out of your machine...

I run the K04 in my 2004 A4 USP, and for me its fine. The A4's my daily driver, gets me to work & home, so I dont need 300+HP for daily driving.

if u want more power, fix the k04 at minimal cost, sell it for good $, combine it with that 700$ u were gonna spend on the k04 and buy a GTRS or bigger.

Ya I haven't seen one.. If I end up doing it I'll be sure to hit the dyno.. I'm gonna ship it off there and get an estimate.. k04 will probably be enough for me.. I'm not trying to go crazy with it

That's like ugly people saying that real beauty is on the inside.

You say it, but deep inside, you know you'd love 300hp for daily driving, lol.

I personally would at least go GT28RS. It has the driveability, and it spools relatively quick, and still give s great power curve all the way up the rev band.
I'd bet the K04 feels fast if it spikes at a certain RPM like people say it does. My 1+ felt quicker than my Stage 3+, because it was spikey and boost was just thrown at you all at once. It wasn't until I realized that I was doing like @20mph faster speeds everywhere on my drives that I figured out that the GT28RS is just more smooth... but still faster and reliable. It just has the balls when you might need it without sacrificing driveability when you don't.

Maybe if I could drive a B6 A4 with a GT28RS, to see first hand how the turbo performs...reading about'm and seeing video's just doesnt do it for me

    Re: K04... Worth it?

The K04 setup does well for what it was designed to do. It's all a matter of what your driving needs are (and how much power you want to handle). A K04 setup will deliver good power without the need for any additional upgrades and works well with other modest upgrades.

If you're looking for more power, you'll not only need to look at larger turbos, but different injectors, programming, FMIC, stronger clutch, etc. If this type of investment is not in your plans, then it would be better to stick with the K04.

What software would you run with this? How much bigger is it than a regular K04? Too large that GIAC or Revo K04 files wouldn't work?

ko4s should have at least a DSMIC if not a FM, at least 225TT injectors, ko4 file, exhaust, etc. also. thats why many people skip the ko4 and go straight to an eliminator setup at the least, the supporting mods are virtually the same

Think this K04 with the larger compressor wheel would run well on Giac K04 file?

Custom tune by those guys is way more expensive than a Giac or Revo K04 flash.

Let me know what they have to say.

doesn't spending $700 for a rebuild defeat the purpose of getting a free turbo? you can go without an upgraded intercooler during the winter, but even when i was stock i had ridiculous heat soak at about 45 degrees and up. now that i'm 1+ it's even worse. our intercoolers really struggle up at this altitude, so come spring make sure you have the bills to upgrade...

Are you getting it rebuilt through Blouch? What compressoer are they going to use? I'm in the same boat and have a K04 that I might rebuild as well.
