Changing bulbs to “Chrome Domes” and Check Engine codes

    Hey folks,

I’ve been looking into changing my DRL, fogs, plate, etc.. bulbs from stock to “chrome domes” but I have read that they can sometimes cause codes to come up?

Would a bulb really cause the check engine light to light to light up? If so, any ways around this?

I also just recently ordered a “xenon” intererior light kit. I only replaced the dome lights, map lights (front and rear) and vanity mirror bulbs so far. I’m now worried to do the rest of the interior lights…would hate to pop a fault code for a freaken bulb lol.

    Thanks,
    Ray

If they're regular bulbs you should be fine... it's LEDs that cause error because they don't draw enough current to register, so you have to put a resistor in the circuit also for LEDs.

in no way would a bulb give you a check engine light (CEL). It might give you a bulb out warning, i.e. you are using LEDs and due to the low energy the computer thinks the bulb is out. The way around this is to install a resistor, the DIY is somewhere on the forums. But I am not familiar with "Chrome Dome" bulbs.

Oh for real? Cool, I was not planning on swpapping for LED's anyway, just regular bulbs to give it that white/blue look.

    thanks!

The "chrome domes" are regular blue "xenon" bulbs with chrome tops.
