Re: how to rig up a bracket for a FMIC?

i used aluminum too. easy to drill, cut, and shape. painted it and then used allen head bolts to hold it together FTW!!

had to use some rubber grommets for the backs of the bolts to keep it from grinding into the condenser.

I also used Plasti dip to paint it with minimal sanding and it looks stealth

    Home Depot/Lowes/Menards.

I have dimensions if you really need 'em, but it's pretty simple.

i am actually going through this myself... got the intercooler that looks damn near identical to the first pic in this thread.... not sure how i want to mount it or what/how to do it..... do i have to pull the nose off like they do for the service mode or just the front bumper?

Just the bumper cover. That includes the aluminum support that's behind the bumper skin. It will have to be trimmed, probably both the aluminum and the bumper skin.

You should use some sort of support, even if it's only bungee cords. That intercooler weighs like 15lbs, having your pipes hold it up will eventually lead to problems down the road.

Do it right the first time and save money b/c you don't have to do it twice.

Re: how to rig up a bracket for a FMIC?

i used Al flat stock and made two upside down L's then used a 1/8" steel peice to make a diagonal brace on each one. it doesnt span the entire radiator, and is more than sturdy enough

Re: how to rig up a bracket for a FMIC?

i had a 3" core that was way too tall. i traded it fora core that is 2.75" by 7.5" tall. even with it only being 2.75" wide it still looks the rebar and alot of the bumper will have to be trimmed.

were any of you able to still use the bumper grilles after trimming the bumper?

Re: how to rig up a bracket for a FMIC?

hate to bring this back from the dead.... AGAIN.... how much $$$ are you guys paying for your aluminum banding/strapping?? i went to the local hardware store today but they didnt have anything like i thought i wanted. how sturdy is the aluminum you guys are using? is it the strapping that is in the rolls or is it the stuff you get in 3 foot straight sections that is like 1/4" thick?? i didnt think there was that much difference but i found out today that there is... any specific stuff that u'r using??
<--------yes, i used my audi to drag my deer out of the woods. it was heavy, i was cold, car had heat, much less work, and frankly, it was far. the deer was big, i am not, just seemed like the right thing to do. if it werent for the apr2+ i may not have been able to pull that monstrosity out of the woods w/out a helicoptor. i cant afford a helicoptor, i have a hard enough time affording my audi. all this being said, yes. that is an apr2+ awd audi pulling a deer out of the woods.

not the stuff in the roll that you use to attach 2x4's together. they are sturdy metal strips probably 0.125" thick. about $8 each at home depot.

Re: how to rig up a bracket for a FMIC?

Made this out of 3/16" stock and bent it in a vice, then I painted it with high temp engine paint... total cost was about $8 not including the 3" cutting wheel which I also used to fab up the intercooler piping
