    Engine Idle when Cold

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So lately Ive noticed that when I start the car in the morning that the car does not idle higher like it's supposed to. It should idle higher when it's cold and then when it gets enough heat in the engine the idle falls back down to normal idle. Could this be some sort of speed sensor issue if it's not doing this? It's staying at normal idle right away when I start the car. Also I noticed that my speedometer might possibly be off. The speedometer needle will be reading 5 mph more than what the computers average is telling me when i reset it. For example cruise set to 70 when I reset the computers average mph it's reading like 65 mph. Which one is correct? Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

    Re: Engine Idle when Cold

My car does the same thing, if its around 40 degrees, cold start bumps the idle higher, but if its colder then say 30 degrees, It just idles at 900rpms...seems to be pretty normal for 1.8's

The idle speed kick up at cold start, is to help the cat converter heat up as fast as possible. Below ~30 deg F, the idle kick up is slower than it is at warmer temps. It's normal.

Same thing here with the idle, and same thing with the Cruise Control.
