    a friend of mine has a b6 s4 and i have a b5 s4... i have a chip stright pipes soild engine mounts and a rs4 clutch... he has cat back and air intake ... ive never raced a b6 because i cant find any to race but he said the race is point less cause he would smoke me... just wondering from guys who have knowlege on the topic...who would win?

    Depends but he should since chipped B5 is not that fast. If you are better drive you might take him. Way to many variables there.

    A chipped B5 with straight pipes actually picks up better than you might think. I remember doing pulls on a stock B6 S4 when my B5 was completely stock. He pulled on me, but not by that much. My money is on the lighter B5.

    stock for stock the B6/7 would win. If the chip and straight pipes netted you 50-60 hp, then I think you'd take him.

    Stock B5 should be around 190WHP. Gaining 50 or so would not necessarily make it faster. Weight difference is not that big either. Would absolutely depend on the driver.
    All of this is speculation and does not translate to real world. Two different cars with two different drivers and completely different engines.

    actually, it would make a difference. Using your 190whp figure, thats assuming barely more than 25% drivetrain loss. taking that loss into account for 55 hp i assumed he might gain, the B5 nets out to about 231whp. With an assumed curb weight of approximately 3500, he ends up with about 15whp/lb. The stock V8 S4, however, has 255 whp assuming 25% drivetrain loss. And on a GENEROUS day, assume the V8 S4 weighs ONLY 3850lbs, you have just about, oh i dont know, 15whp/lb.

    a 50-60 hp gain on a B5 S4 absolutely would make a huge difference in that race.

    But in the end, if your point is simply that it would come down to the driver, then yeah. I agree.

    Exactly my point. If what the OP is saying is correct then they would be pretty equal and the race would depend on the driver.

    I got the 190WHP figure from buddy of mine that we datalogged to make sure his ECU was not chipped (he didn't know if it was or not) then it got dyno'd and ended up with 190WHP bone stock on pump gas.

    thanks for all the input ... iam not being a dick i just want to know if its worrth my time to race this guy... i beleve the b5 will win due the the fact i have the turbos and lighter weight...another question, is ther a super charger kit for the 4.2L ?

    There is MTM kit which is $50k and VF is coming out with one soon.

    Let’s play with numbers.

    We can talk about crank horsepower since both cars are AWD and have the same drivetrain loss.
    B5 S4 (let’s say APR chip) has 307hp and 366lb-ft of tq + strait pipes lets assume 320hp and 370tq at 3700lb

    B6 with intake and catback is around 355hp and 310tq at 3920lb

    B5 has 11.5lb per hp and 10lb per tq
    B6 has 11lb per hp and 13lb per tq

    The B5 has the advantage in tq, while both cars are basically equal when in comes to hp.
    In the end it comes out to who has a better launch.

    If the B6 is a tip it will loose
    B6 however has wider tires and might grip better.

    turbo lag= .3 seconds on k03s.. it's really not even an issue really.. if he knows how to brake boost it, he could take off like a v8 too.. it all depends on a chip on the b5 and the driver... i've seen b6's take b5's when b5s were stage 2 and the b6 had a chip

    Im not saying you B6'ers are biased, but you B6'ers are biased.

    I would and will be buying my b6 s4 within the month so the second or two lost in speed is made up for luxury and driveability of the B6. Anyways..

    The question is a chipped b5 faster than a stock b6? Answer is yes, and the testing has been done for us already... its pretty comprehensive

    That testing was kind of biased toward B5 and areas where it would be faster. Only 40-70MPH 3rd gear test was decent.

    At any rate, this comparison is really dumb ... stock vs. modded car. There are Civics out there that will smoke any B6 S4 so should we compare the two?

    the comparison entails 2 stock cars and 2 modded. In it there is a newer more powerful car that would make it more inline with a modded "weaker"(for lack of a better word) vehicle. I dont think its THAT dumb, and to that end, you must be saying the original posters question is dumb because that is exactly what he intends to do, drive his modded vehicle vs a stock one...

    basically a stage 2 B5 S4, which is usually considered to have a chip/exhaust/straight pipes, is just as fast, if not faster than a B6/B7 S4. But I will tell you from experience, that I will STOMP on a stock B5 S4. Chipped is very close, drivers race. I think with straight pipes, the B5 S4 may have the slight edge. Again, depends on driver.

    it looks like i have started a feud between b5s and b6s...lol never my intention but in the same scence awesome... there are many factors to consider as i know know, and for the responce about going to the track, up here in canada there are not many tracks to race on ,there closeing down a lot of our tracks up here, its going to be a stright line race on a closed course... the in put is awesone and has given me a lot to consider....did i mention b5 s4s kick ass...:)

    i raced my buddy..............he is either a horid driver or it just true that the b5 is better then the b6...and for your point on getting more girls....an audi is an audi they have no clue.... yes i beat him and it was by more then 4 car lenghts
