The 04 S4 that I'm looking at buying has sensors on the front and rear bumper. I have never seen this before on a S4. Does anybody know what these are for?

front and rear parking assist. I was not aware of this being an option on US. models. someone added euro bumpers perhaps?

I know it is hardwired for a radar detector. Do you think this is an option?

lol unless you buying a porsche....idk about the ones in the front but the back is park assist....

European S4's were available with both front and rear park assist. I'm pretty sure the b6's here were available with neither. there is no option for hardwired radar detector either. sounds like someone has added it.

park assist was an option here in the US. basically beeps when you are about to hit something. as far as the hardwired radar detector, that's aftermarket. pretty much means it's hooked up to a constant power source so you don't have to plug it to the cigarette lighter with the cord or it could also have sensors wired somewhere on the outside of the car but most people don't.

I agree with the previous posters that it is probably an aftermarket bumper for the rear. But in regards to the front, are you sure you are not just looking at the headlight washers?
