Common misfire issue. You should get your hands on a VAG com to figure out which cylinder is misfiring. Actually, you could use the generic OBD II scanner (Autozone special for free) as I am more than sure you have a solid CEL by now. If not, you will very soon (next time you go for a spin, you more than likely will end up with a solid CEL). I would say it is an ignition coil more than spark plugs.
[start rant]The coils on these cars are annoying. I had to replace one maybe 3 weeks ago, after installing 4 new "R" version ones maybe 2 months ago because of a misfire. So, I have 3 "R" versions and one "L" version that I had from my other pack. I am thinking to get the Hitachi ones to see how they hold up. [end rant]
After you pull the code, look it up on Ross-Tech. It will tell you which cylinder or cylinders you have misfires on. Swap coils from a cylinder(s) which is not misfiring and see if the misfire move to those cylinders. If it does, then it is your coils. And on a side note, when I replaced mine a couple weeks ago, I did the played musical ignition thing (swapping coils). When I used VAG Com to see which cylinder it was, I pulled codes for the same cylinder. I KNEW it was a coilpack, so I cleared the code again. Turned off ignition, started back up, revved for a little till I got a solid CEL, and sure enough it then said the misfire was in the other cylinder. Just a heads up.
