Please help finishing diagnosing my misfires...TIA

changed all plugs, no changes at all.

VAG-COM log groups 014/015/016 show about 200 misfires in 20 seconds on cyl 5, and 7 on cyl 1, 0 on rest

I then swap the coil pack of 5 with 6, and there is no change at all in misfires, so its not the coil pack.

Then I swap ICMs and I get 252 misfires on cyl 2 and 43 on cyl 5 in about 30 seconds of idling, 0 on the rest.

I still need to do a thorough boost leak check. but what does it sound like to you guys?

I am thinking its my ICM, can i rule out a boost leak or should i have that smoke tested before i buy a new ICM.

also, if it is an ICM, which one is the bad one? front or rear.

    Thanks guys!

did you change your timing belt and all that good stuff... i did and that happend to me it ended upt being that the belt got kinked and moved the timing so i was smashing exhaust valves with the pistons and needed to have the cyliderhead reground aswell. hope this helped and your problem isnt like mine. it cost $5500 to have the cyliderhead reground and new exhaut valves and labor

is it bad enough where you are getting a CEL or are these just silent codes?

Before you start buying random parts, What plugs are you running, where they gapped correctly, what stage are you?

You need to elaborate more clearly. Are these missfires at idle or at high rpm under boost??

Also what spark plugs are you using?? What are they gapped at?

Have you been losing any coolant???

    Any cam sensor codes??

no cam sensor codes at all...misfire is all the time, idle, boost, always. it wont let me get above 5 psi, like its in limp mode. not losing any coolant at all. plugs are autolite double platinums gapped at .028. the plugs were changed after this had started happening, same plugs that were in it before and never had a problem with them.

if it were the plugs, i would assume multiple cylinders would misfire, not just cylinder 5. when i switch the ICM, the misfire moves, for the most part. thats why i was thinking ICM. what could be causing the Limp mode. I do get a CEL for the misfire. I was thinking boost leak at first, but the car still pulls same vacuum as before when it ran fine.

If the missfire changes when you move the ECM than replace it. Each ECM controls one bank, if the misfire changes to a different bank when you switch it than you know that's the problem it's no brainer.

Got your PM and was gonna reply but I figured I should check the thread first.

Makes sense since something changed when swapping the ICM out.
