    motormounts interchangeable?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
hi all, first, i have searched a lot on the subject and i already know everyone is gonna say "go with 034" wich i might, but they are a bit of money since i wanna change both sides at the same time...

now, i have looked at mounts for both b5 and b6 v6 or 1.8t, and they all seem pretty much identical to me, since the 034 fit both generations, i'm wondering if they are indeed interchangeable.

I'm in the same boat. It seems like they're all the same basic shape and style.

    Re: motormounts interchangeable?

When I changed mine I did some research..but it's been awhile and have since forgot/misplaced the info. If I remember correctly there was something with the B5 1.8t's that were different that would cause them not to work, although they "look" the same...like I said going off memory though.

I know 034 seem to be very good...but the price for them has like more than doubled in a very short period of time and IMO are on the expensive side now.

I went with the 2.7T S4 mounts. They fit. Cheaper than OEM and 034 mounts. They are ever so slightly shorter and after my install I had to readjust my snub mount. I forget the #'s off-hand, but they are susposed to be like 40% stiffer than stock B6 1.8t's or something like that...but still fluid filled. IMO they seem like OEM and made a big difference, but just replacing my worn out ones would probably have done that.

    Re: motormounts interchangeable?

I had my mounts replaced with s4 mounts at the dealership under warranty. they are a bit stiffer and it goes very well with a stern snub and tranny mount.

The factory B5 S4 mounts are not stiffer than the B6 1.8T mounts. The part number is slightly different; that's about all. Maybe they seemed stiffer since the factory mounts they replaced were worn?

Even the B5 RS4 mounts are hardly stiffer than the stock 1.8T mounts. I know this by firsthand experience.

About 3 years ago, before I worked here, and before our mounts were available, I tried both B5 S4 and RS4 mounts, and saw virtually no improvement. I even spent $350 on these mounts:

When I got one of the first sets of Density Line mounts, I was amazed. Perfect OE fit, re-engineered with performance in mind, and still much cheaper than OEM RS4 mounts.

Our Street Density mounts are perfect for a daily driver, and Track Density is good for those who want a very solid mount.

    Re: motormounts interchangeable?

thanks for the extra info but if you read my original post, you'll find i already know about the 034 mounts, but since my car is only mildly modded and not driven very hard, im trying to look for factory options and not spend 200 dollars for a pair (im in canada, exchange rate is gonna add a few bucks to the addition)

The only factory mounts that I know of that are even slightly stiffer are RS4 mounts, and IIRC, they are $120 each.

Your best bet is finding the cheapest OE mount available; they should make somewhat of a difference if your old mounts are worn.

    Re: motormounts interchangeable?

I just switched back from 034 Street Density to normal OEM because if it got colder than 20 degrees F, the vibrations were a problem.

    Re: motormounts interchangeable?

I did notice problems with the 034 mounts. Maybe I did something wrong on the install but even in the summer, the vibrations were too much for me. My $.02

well, bringing this back up, i have to do this soon and wanna know if someone knows for sure if these 1.8t b5 or v6 b5 will fit or not... they are half the price of the correct 1.8t b6 mounts.

    Re: motormounts interchangeable?

just get the 034 mounts. only 95 a piece for B6 motor mounts... i think they have a package deal if you get both and a tranny mount? not to mention you won't ever have to replace these unless you manage to break one like me by having the motor slip off it's jack and crush one of the studs lol.

    completely 100% worth it.

sweet, so i went and ordered 2 of these from a local source, ended up paying about 50 cdn ea. wich is around 80us$ for both sides.

    and...

they fit like a glove, i was standing next to my mecanic giving an occasionnal hand, they went in with zero issues, nice and easy.

so i guess its pretty nice to know for those of us looking for economical factory mounts

    Re: motormounts interchangeable?

i have zero vibrations with my 034 street density mounts.. sounds like install error.. try loosening them, letting it idle then torque them down
