Have Autozone stopped reading engine codes?

As the title says really, my dad took his truck to Autozone to get a CEL read and they said they can no longer do it and they dont even have there code readers anymore. He said its dealer only now.

Anyone else heard about this?

Yeah they have at least in California. I called for them to get my cel codes pulled and they told me they can't do that anymore. I forget why they stopped but the Autozone person did have a reason.

Yea, a while ago.

Guy told me it was because shops/dealers got pissed or something that they can't charge us 90$ to say, "It's your thing-a-ma-jig, and we'll fix it for 20000$."

yah. happened to me too. i was like wtf.. i just had a c/e light cuz of the damn coilpacks.

i was just thinking maybe people are clearing it, then getting smogged before the c/e light came back on.. but i didnt think about shops getting pissed, so that's a good reason too.

still annoying tho. glad i have good friends VAGcomms

Well we have a 07 Dodge Ram hemi that is under warranty. Does anyone know if we will have to pay Dodge to get this checked or should it be covered under warranty?

i believe any emissions faults are covered under warranty(for the life of the warranty) with most manufacturers.

Actually, the reason the autozone toolsheds are finally stopping this nonsense is because many, if not most all, Attorney Generals are forcing them to for the sake of consumer protection. More often than not, the nimrods at the zone just end up selling a bunch of stuff the cars don't need cause they have no clue what they're doing with those little mickey mouse "code readers".

There is a commercial playing in Sacramento for AAMCO, they have a special right now and are reading and clearing CEL for free....I'm sure there is some hitch, but might be worthy of checking out if there is one near you....

When i went there to get it done they sold me the code reader and then told me that i could return it when ever. I have been to lazy to return it and now its like 8 months later.....i wonder if they will still take it back?
