    Dual Side mounts

Don't get mad about this post, but I wanted to know if dual side mounts would be a better idea then just a front mount, and if it is as hard? All suggestions please!
    Thanks!

    Re: Dual Side mounts

It would be harder to fab up and wouldn't be as efficient.

    Re: Dual Side mounts

Everyone has their opinions. I have APR for the turbo and throttle body hoses. Both fit fine for me and look great. Others have had bad experiences.

I have a Samco turbo inlet hose. No problems at all. I believe either one is good though they are both good names. As far as throttle body hose don't bather since you want to do front mount.

    Re: Dual Side mounts

imo, it all depends on what your goals are. i cant imagine it being super-expensive to get a used oem sidemount (50 bucks shipped) and custom make a mount for it on the passenger side. relocate or eliminate the sec-air pump, and custom some piping. this way you can still utilize the 25 lb oem cross-tube, as well as retain a stock or stealth look. for even more efficiency from the dsmic setup, you can switch to s4 front wheel liners which are louvered for the oem dsmic's that they run. the only disadvantage is that the oem cooler endtanks are plastic, and are pinched on rather than welded, thus, this setup would only be good for a car running chipped k03 or possibly k04 on moderate boost. however, this would be an excellent solution to some1 running into heat soak issues on the stock single smic.

where it gets expensive is when you want to upgrade the coolers themselves to aftermarket or oem rs4/rs6 charge coolers. at this stage you are most likely pushing bt power, which i would suggest a decent sized fmic. ebay is a possibility for the smaller gt-series, but once you are BAT/2.0, an ER Comp should be an investment. just my .02. theres also a thread that supported the argument of dsmic and was backed by independent research by bosch. this explains why the a3, b7/b8 a4, tt-225, tt mk-2, tt-s, s4, rs4, and rs6 all run dsmic rather than single or dual fmic.

    Re: Dual Side mounts

Plenty of people have shown data of how huge of a difference a dual SMIC setup is vs a FMIC. The DSMIC setups just cant lower the IAT's all that much and they will have a much higher pressure drop.

If a SMIC heat soaks quickly, so will a DSMIC. You will just end up with one SMIC that heat soaks while the 2nd one does not, this is because the IAT's going into the first SMIC is much higher then going into the 2nd. In the end you still end up with a heat soaked SMIC.

I guess if you are still running stock boost levels the DSMIC will work just fine, but then so does the stock SMIC, it just moved to the other side of the car.

BTW Audi/VW did sell a turbo car with a stock FMIC, it just happened to be very thin and the size of the radiator.

    Re: Dual Side mounts

I do not know how much power you have on your engine (turbo size), but there is always the boost factory option. According to the web site, the BF SMIC is good up to 400 hp (GT2871r or similar turbo). Tyrol also has a similar SMIC (yet the site does not say how much HP it is capable of handling and is $50 more than the BF one). One con of the SMIC is location. There will not be direct flow to the intercooler. But if running a smaller turbo, I see no issue with it.

    Re: Dual Side mounts

that (boost factory) sidemount is so thick it looks like a miniature hotel with endtanks. probably cools pretty well though with some proper ducting and louvered exits
