i was told i had the race file too though, and I don't. Have you physically connected to the ECU with a programmer to check?

who did you get it from or who were you in contact with that said you have the race file

Re: APR Stage 3 Race File

There isn't. Prior to going BT with my tiptronic, I asked them about programs with their stg 3+, Steve European Auto here wasn't aware that they had a race file, nor did APR said they did when I was in contact with them a few months ago...Hard to say, maybe they have one now?

There is a race file. They just don't tell anyone about it. I've never used mine, but I think it's 100 octane. I had to beg and plead to get it. But it's been around at least since I got my kit, so a couple years now.
I think ptwiggens had it, too.

I do not have the ECU in the car yet. When I called APR to have the 3+ swapped from one ECU to another I asked what additional files were available. Later he confirmed that both a 93 file and a race file were loaded. I guess I will find out when it's installed.

Yes there is a race file 100 octane, apr is reluctant because they fear it will blow engines...It was available when I bought my kit

I know because my manual for the kit says so. I have every file but the valet. Each has it's own blink number. 91 is 1 blink, 93 is 2 blinks, and 100 is 3 blinks, etc.
I don't have a home programmer. So am I positive? Since I've never run it, no. But it was handwritten in by the programmer on my manual when I got my ECU back from APR. So unless they are playing a cruel joke on me, I'd have to assume it's legit.
I begged everyone and promissed I had a built block (which, I don't, hence why it has never been used). Who actually green-lighted it, I don't know.
The only person I know who has run the file is, I'm pretty sure, ptwiggens.

What do you mean by built? Just some forged rods, or rods with a built head ie. new exhaust valves, springs etc. I'm very interested in a 100 octane file for my new stage III car.

Re: APR Stage 3 Race File

"The power increase with the APR Stage III+ kit for the A4 1.8T is substantial. It is highly recommended that brake and suspension upgrades are done to safely use the potential of this upgrade. It is also recommended that the stock engine internals be upgraded for power levels above 93 octane, as APR is not responsible for this type of damage to the engine."

    The MAP sensor?

Each ECU is different. I think each year is a different p/n. 2002s have different fuel maps so their programming is different than 2003+. I even think 2003 is different yet but 2004+ is the same.

Greg's is a 2002 because the ECU that APR flashed is one of my spares (I have three 2002 ECUs including my ASP one).

I just got off the phone with APR - and again I was assured there is no 100 octane file. The guy said no, then I insisted. He put me on old to go ask someone else to be 100% sure. He said he 'asked a guy who has been here since day 1, who drives a stage 3 b6 a4 and he said there is no 100 octane file'

so unless im getting a huge cock in my ass, I am assuming that you will all be surprised to find out that you don't have a 100 octane program

I've never tried it and haven't had a programmer hooked up to know, but it is written on my owner's manual as "Race File- 3 blinks".
They also tell me they don't have a 2871R 2.0 B6 file.... but in reality, they do.
Doesn't matter to me. I'll never use my pseudo-race file on the 28RS. I'm movin' on up this spring.

Re: APR Stage 3 Race File

I bought stuff from Andy, but he isn't the one doing the programming. I can't remember who from programming that I talked to, but I'd set it up with one of the programmers at H2O a few months prior to buying the kit. When I bought the kit, I called the dude direct to tell him my ECU was coming, because I knew dealing with the sales force wouldn't get me what I'd wanted.
This was a few years ago now, so I can't remember. I did see him at Waterfest, though, but he had no idea who I was.
I wish ptwiggens was still around. I'd swear he used race file when he beat his dad in that race they did.

They guy I talked to at APR was named Chris. And he said he would love for someone with this 100 octane file to call him so he can figure out what file it is, because he too is interested.

That is HILARIOUS that a direct employee of APR wants something a customer on the other side of the country has of theirs. Sounds like that new building and the company themselves have gotten so large that their internal organization is like any large 'corporation' within this country..... chaos as usual

Re: APR Stage 3 Race File

Sounds perfectly plausible to me. APR was experimenting on a few race gas files a couple of years back, they were developed on Tom's car (12.71@111).

The B6 is a dinosaur to them, they are currently developing stuff for '09 and '10 model year cars.

Re: APR Stage 3 Race File

and i think i found my answer... i dont think there ever really was a race gas file on this ECU...

sounds like drew and steve (previous owners) never had one... heres a quote after drew installed the kit on steves car:

    "
Steve's car feels much different than mine though, this is a newer file for the 02 ECU, APR had just finished a new file for the 04 but I had already took the kit off. This 02 file feels pretty good, but without a race program, high 12's are a long shot.

The thing about the APR kit, which is different than the Revo software, is that you can't tweak the boost at all, I tried it and it you can't add much without hitting limp. Also there is no race file, running 100 helps but without a file, it's still not optimizing the better fuel.

ATP/REVO is for the hardcore enthusiast who can control almost every aspect of the tune and make the most power possible out of that turbo and it's worked out fantastic for those power addicts like yourself. More maintenence is involved in this setup, but most hardcore enthusiasts dont' mind the trade off for more boost and thus more power.

The APR kit is for the middle of the road enthusiast who wants all the emissions and ECU to stay intact with some excellent power, no hardware issues, easy install, stock like look under the hood, etc."

Both are perfect for each enthusiast's needs and exactly what the vendor intended for both. :

Re: APR Stage 3 Race File

In the past, APR sales people have told me:

    1. It is unpossible to buy a test pipe for the Stage 3+ kit.
    2. The R1 is the best DV out there.
    3. Their exhausts are made in house and the welds don't break.
    4. They don't have a file for the GT2871R.

    All of which.... fail.
I wouldn't be surprised that two different sales people tell two different stories, and no one in sales really has a clue as to what the guys in the back room can conjur up for software files.

I'm telling you Ryan, there IS a file. I know ptwiggens used it, and I know I was told by one of their programmers beforehand, and he wrote "Race File" in my manual that was sent with the ECU after programming at APR. I'm half-tempted to 3-blink it and see what happens. I remember specifically telling the guy that I did NOT want the Valet file as no valet would ever touch my car, and that I didn't need the code-reset since I had VAG COM. But I wanted the race file and I lied about my block being stock internals to get it.

This is all I can tell you... I talked to 2 guys over at APR, Chris and Tom. they both said there is no race file for this car. My understanding is that Tom drives a b6 a4 stg3 as well.

I called up SEA which is the local APR place, they checked and said there is no file... they called APR and they confirmed.

I called eurocode and the guy said he has installed 100+ octane files, but when I talked it through with him, he was then thinking that they must not have one for the "F" (2002) ECU. I load up the given *.APE file and flip through the programs and there are only the 91, 93, valet and stock. He said they had a custom tune once (presumably PTWiggins 104) as well as a 2.0L 2871R. He said he would call APR and get back to me (havent heard back).

He also sounded against a race file in a non built engine, which is reasonable.

How any of you have this file just as a 'gimme' is beyond me. All I want to do is to be able to take advantage of a methanol kit.... a 100 octane file would be an excellent starting point with some 94 in the tank

Re: APR Stage 3 Race File

Because in this day and age, no one should pay "retail", lol. I got everything in my kit for a hella lot less than the price they post on their site, and they threw in every file I wanted for free. I wouldn't have gotten that from the local APR dealer; I'm guessing few of them know their ass from a hole in the ground. But dealing direct with APR and doing end-runs around the sales people when I didn't get the right answers helped. And, I think buying the kit direct and having them do it all as one shot helped. Adding anything on later seems tough with them. Like I'd said, I had to go through like 3 different sales people to get someone who would actually sell me a test pipe.
