    Headlight Problem/Question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have a 1999 A4 Avant. My fog lights are located within the headlights and not in the bumber. Now here is my problem, when I turn on just my lights (no high beams or fog lights) my driver's side light doesn't work. When I turn on my high beams both head lights work and when I turn on my fog lights both head lights turn on. Where do I start? Thanks in advance.

    Re: Headlight Problem/Question

I am wondering what headlights you have. Your car is a 99, and it is the 99.5+ that have fog lights. So, if you have an OEM fog light integrated dash button then you have stock fogs. But why they are not in the bumper and in the headlight itself is rather puzzling. Do you have 1 peice or 2-peice headlights? And are these OEM? I highly doubt.

    Re: Headlight Problem/Question

The pre-facelift headlights had fog lights built into the actual housing "at least the ones that didn't have fogs in the bumpers".. my guess is a burnt out bulb. Easy fix, hope that's it.

    Re: Headlight Problem/Question

Thanks for the fast responses. Well yes I don't have bumper fogs. I do have two dash integrated fog buttons, one aims the fogs to the floor and the other to the sides. So I have, what? a total of three bulbs in each housing?

Nah. I could be wrong. But one switch is for your front fogs, and the other is your rear fog.

So there are a total of three bulbs in each housing, one for the for, one for the regular beam, and one for the high beam correct? Anyone know where I can get a replacement?

    Re: Headlight Problem/Question

    You have Bosch "triple" headlamps.

    Sounds like a faulty switch.

If you have halogen lights then it's a H7, if you have HID then it's a D2S. I'm assuming you have halogen.. just about any auto store should have those bulbs.

    Re: Headlight Problem/Question

It's not the switch. Switches are either on or off. They do not choose to send power to one light and not to the other. I'm not sure what you've got there, but by all means concentrate on connections.

When the driver's side light is out, wiggle the bejesus out of the connections behind it. If that doesn't do it, move back to the relays. I just checked my Bentley and don't see where the relays are that turn the headlights on and off, but I seriously doubt that each headlight has a wire going back that far.

And yea, a new H7 might solve it all.

    Re: Headlight Problem/Question

the bosch fogs are an H1 bulb if I'm not mistaken, not H7. The facelift models use H7 bulbs.

    Re: Headlight Problem/Question

I went to Auto Zone told them what I had and they busted out and sold me an H7, installed and works and looks fine, not brighter or dimmer. I wonder what could be the difference in the two bulbs.
