Question Reading your engine oil dipstick

Silly question: How do you read the engine oil level on the dipstick if the orange oil level marker is no longer fixed on the dipstick? I was checking the oil level the other day, when I pulled out the dipstick only to realize the orange marker has now slid up the length of the stick. I slid it back down to the kinked area at the bottom of the dipstick but wasn't 100% sure where it was supposed to sit. Any insights?

    ^ Bump.

Does anyone know exactly were this orange marker is supposed to sit on the engine oil dipstick? Mine is loose and sliding along the length of the dipstick. It's pictured below with the orange marker at a random spot on the dipstick.

Go by the textured area at the bottom. Here - don't go over A or below C. Even with that piece moving around, this picture should help.

It's silly but perhaps a new dipstick it is.
