Snow, Salt & 15 degrees below

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Wednesday night: 250 miles through the nastiest stuff I've seen this winter and a staggering 15 below (DIS was reading 2 degrees without the wind chill). Got to VT in time for New Year's cheer and had no issues starting the car again yesterday morning.

Need to put another 500 miles on the new clutch before I can issue a verdict - luckily the conditions were good for break in (no sense in unloading all the torque when the freeway is white).

Here's the morning after - the salt hides the less-than-concours bodywork - I might leave it like this....

Nothing like that "just driven" look lol. Dont keep it like that too long. Salt like to eat away at various parts.

damn, that's cold. It got to 7 degrees at my home a couple weeks ago on my dash display. Not sure how cold it actually was, but it was so cold that when i tried to clean my windshield i had my girl friend turn the windshield wipers on and anything i put on the windshield froze instantly so it looked like my windshield wipers were generating and spreading ice haha. It was the coolest thing i've ever seen. It was literally freezing the instant it touched the windshield.

Right now my car looks like that. I wonder if the salt would damage the paint?

That's why I now have wiper fluid that is supposedly good for -40!

as long as its still very cold the salt really wont hurt your car. the problems occur when it warms up to about freezing point is when it starts getting corrosive.

in summary: if its above freezing, wash your car

here in quebec, canada, our cars basically look like that for about 4 months out of the year

its pretty hard on the cars, we try to pressure wash our cars every once in a while when there's a warmish day (30-35degF.)

    ya... it sucks

Well I drove up here to Stowe, VT and it's soo cold. Took the Hemi up and you can't even tell what kind of car it is from all the ice on the front. Boarded in -1 degree today awesome

currently Toyo Proxes T1R - I have a set of Blizzaks on my stock 17' sport rims but because the car was in the shop having a clutch change last week I never got round to putting them on (they'll go on next week). I was surprised how solid the Toyos were in the snow and ice last week.
No clearance issues at all even with the snow build up in the arches (24.5 allround). I might jack up the coils next week another 1/2 inch when the blizzaks go on...
