    Question Might be purchasing a used 06 B7 A4 2.0T...**UPDATE BELOW**

    Hi there folks.

This is my first post here and I was hoping to pick some of your brains about this car...

My current car is an aging asian make with transmission troubles. To be fair, I have been hard on it. It has seen a few race tracks in its 10 years.

I am now looking for a good 4 door that is fun to drive. Up till now I hae been looking at the WRX. But now I have come across a car that looks pretty nice IMHO. It is a 2006 AUDI A4 Quatro Sport Premium. The car is mint inside and out and has been used as a highwy commuter. The mileage is the only drawback. This car has over 160000 km on it. Now because it is a newer car and if it has been looked after, should I be terribly concerned?

I have heard that these cars can go a very long time if it is maintained well. I am technically inclined and have serviced my current cars for many years now.

Any tips or advice for an Audi noob?

If you do plan to track your car more than a few times a year, you will be much happier with a WRX. It is very costly to mod an A4 and your gains with bolt-ons is going to be no where near that of what a WRX is capable of. On the other hand, if you are looking to get into a more luxurious, semi-sporty daily driver, it will be tough to beat the A4. The interior and build quality of the A4 is immaculate but also makes the car very heavy...

The A4 is a very well built car and for the most part is very reliable if properly maintained. If you decide to go with the A4, I would try to get a certified pre-owned with an extended warranty. If things do break, they tend to be expensive.

I recommend you get the cam lobe and fuel pump checked before purchasing

I wouldn't buy it wit THAT many miles, but if it was properly maintained, it should last, just gotta be careful of the routine issues.. read up in the common problems thread.

Also, what I've personally noticed about european cars is that they use different techniques and tools.. If you want to service your car my number one hint is get a whole bunch of torx bits and extensions..

all that being said, hope to see you around!

    Talking Re: Might be purchasing a used 06 B7 A4 2.0T... Advice?

Sorry guys. I intended to use Cottonmouth as my user name but didn't catch the typo until after I registered. I have sent an email to the site admin and hopefully they can fix it.

As far as tracking the car... I think this will not see much track action. My last car did the job nicely and now I would like to have something a little more show and less go. Not that I am saying that the 2.0T isn't a lively little powerplant, but I think I will focus a little less on the go fast goodies and a little more on the ones that make the car look a little nicer.

If any of you have any interest in what my last car was then just let me know. I'll post some pics. I raced my 99 Tiburon for about 4 years now, and it is getting a little long in the tooth for me to call it even a daily driver.

As far at the A4 in question is concerned, I stopped by the dealership and did some digging into the maintenance history. The last time the previous owner did any service at an Audi dealership was at about 80,000kms. The center armrest console was replaced because of a broken hinge and also there was a recall. The rest was done on or very near the recommended date and km.

Since then there was no record of service. So I told the dealership that I will be needing to see the rest of the servicing as he had promised was available. He advised me that he had it and would do so.

So for now I have a deposit down on the car pending financing and a full inspection by Oakville Audi. I am planning on taking the car there and having their mechanics give the car a once or twice over.

Thanks again for all of the helpful coments. I have been on many car forums before and I know how nice it is to get a warm welcome.

    Re: Might be purchasing a used 06 B7 A4 2.0T... Advice?

Last night I took the car to the local Audi shop and have them give the car a thorough look.

    Here is what they found:

    • Needs to replace the complete window switch on the driver's door inner pannel. Some one-touch operation not always work. (not a big deal to me, I can fix)
    • Rear Trunk Latch - sometimes doesn't catch. (I want this fixed before I take the car).
    • Engine Timing Belt showing signs of wear. Can't tell if it was replaced at 115,000km (I am making the guy show me proof it was done or I will have to assume it was not done and he will be forced to adjust th price of the car accordingly).
    • Rt. Side rear window tint has been ripped. (Not a big deal. I have a buddy that can replace it for me)
    • Driver's backrest cover is cracked. (Barely noticable)
    • As per VAS 5052 Scan-Tester - Engine RPM in upper limit. (Likely a PCV valve. I think I can fix)
    • Front brake discs under specs. Need to be replaced. (I will make him replace then because of the safety.)
    • Centre arm-rest latch broken. (Small part I can fix)

The estimate for the timing belt service is as follows:
Timing belt tensioners & rolers, replace engine water pump & change coolant, possible replace serpintine belt & tensioners - approx. $1500 + taxes.

I went back the the salesman and presented him with this list. I told him that the rotors needed to be replaced for safety, the trunk would need to be fixed and that if he could not provide me with proof that the timing belt has been replaced that I will have to assume that it hasn't. He will then need to adjust his price accordingly.

The car does come with a 2 year unlimited km powertrain warranty. But my concern is this; Should I assume that the timing belt was replaced as it was supposed to be and it breaks and causes damage to the engine, the warranty company will likely deny my claim because the timing belt is part of a regular maintenance schedule and should have been done.

I hope all goes well today. The salesman is supposed to contact the previous owner and get me proof of the work and have the rest of the issues sorted out before I pick up the car tonight.

    Wish me luck.

^^^ I just realized this would make a great MasterCard ad:

    -Buying a used Audi = $14000
-Having it checked by an Audi dealer and learning the repairs will be $$$ = $124.87

-Not making a mistake in paying too much for the car = PRICELESS!

    Re: Might be purchasing a used 06 B7 A4 2.0T... Advice?

OK!!! All went well last night.

The dealership found the shop that did the servicing after the free Audi services ran out. It is a shop that specializes in european cars. I called them after looking them up online and tey said the car was well looked after. The timing belt WAS done at 115000km and it was there every 7000km for an oil cange.
The salesman also had his guy look at the trunk and he said he got it working better and the rotors on the front had more left than the Audi dealer said. So he gave me a safety confirming this.

So as of 5:30 pm last night Audizine has another enthusiast.
