podi mechanical gauge night pics.. (with 1.5k ohm resistor)

Winston does not disappoint.. i love my new S&D podi + mechanical gauge..

-- the S&D podi looked nearly flawless..
-- the new mechanical gauge looks great too..
-- no buzzing at all with the 2 supplied antibuzz fittings installed..
-- the gauge was just a little loose, but a 2" piece of electrical tape on the bottom of the gauge cured that..
-- when i tightened the 90* vacuum line fitting (to the back of the gauge) it pointed into the side of the podi, so i had to back it off a 1/4 turn.. i had some plumbers tape around so i thru it on to insure no leaks and it does not seem to be a problem..
-- the gauge lighting is a little more blue than the dash, but for the price and quality otherwise, i can definitely live with it..
-- as known the gauge is a little bright.. i added a 1.5k ohm 1/2watt resistor and it is much better.. ($0.99 for a pack of 5 at Radio Shack).. here are some pics..

oops.. posted a bit late last night and forgot the very important decimal point.. i edited the original post with the correct price of 99cents for a pack of 5.. thanks..


also i should have added that many have said 1/4 watt was sufficient, but my Radio Shack only had 1.5k ohm in 1/2 watt..

you also might want to pick up a short piece of shrink tubing..

now i just need REVO stg2 to better exercise the gauge..

nice. that's what mine has ended up looking like with three 470's in it. same brightness but just a little bit of blue tint to it.

still a millions times better than that SW guage was.

If you had added a 1 watt/1.5k ohm resistor how would that effect the light output?

Is is the resistance which reduces the light output, not the power rating of the resistor (wattage)

If you used a 2300ohm resistor the light output would dim even more.

The power rating determines how much power it can dissipate.

For example... the cityLED resistor mod.. I used a 1W resistor and the resistor does get warm absorbing all the excess current to protect the LED.

If you replaced it with the same resistance value but used a 1/4W power value it would get hot and heat is the enemy here.

If you put a 5W resistor in there the resistor itself would operate very cool and you might not feel any heat at all.

installed an Omori center vent gauge kit and tied the white 12v ignition (for dimming capabilities) into the grey and whit wire of my headlight switch. quick question....i bought the same resistors you did and tied one into the white wire of my gauge. it dimmed the light output but it turned my white backlighting into red? is it possible that i put the resistor in backwards? any ideas?

resistors are non-directional, so that is not the issue.. not sure how it turned it to red??..

im wondering if the resistor somehow duplicared rge color of the lighting of the headlight switch. it boggled my mind like no other. it dimmed but turned red...lol

Did you ever solve the problem of your backlight changing to red? Finished my install with the resistor and the same thing happened to me lol. Wonder if there is a specific spot it needs to be. Although the red doesnt look too bad matches all the red where it sits.

it took over a year for me to get them but the silver bezels have finally arrived!

So what was the name you palced your order under so I can look it up.

Its an Omoni from the ecs vp kit.

I don't know if the current Omori gauges are the same design as the old ones, I say this since Omori Meter Japan went out of business 2 years ago, but the original ones has a setting where if you shorted out two of the pins with a supplied resistor pack it would set the gauge to a 'default' color.

I have one which turns amber orange and another that turns green.

Alright thanks for the help, probably what is going on.. I don't mind the new color it matches the rest of the interior red perfect, only thing is it's a little hard to read at night, but with a pretty much stock ko3 I don't need to read much...yet lol.

wow, i wish my gauges lighting looked that well...you can actually see the needle :)
