    is it normal for hotels

to charge a fee if you have get together in one of their rooms?
long story short, my sisters friends brother rented the room for us, mind you we are under age. later in the night, half the hotel got evicted for having too many people in them which they call a "party" (it's a suite, and he said max people is 3. I realize there's fire code and stuff like that, but they charged $600 for a party fee? is this normal? hate to rant but it doesnt make sense to me. They kicked us out of the room before we even had time to make a mess.
This was at the residence inn by mariott on bascom/curtner. I read the website and have not found ANYTHING on parties and "party" fee's.
    Any ideas?

You might have to bite the bullet on this one. Especially if you're under age (under 18)

Was half the hotel really evicted? I find that absurd of them to do

Re: is it normal for hotels

i would fight it and ask them to prove where they disclosed this information before you checked in. If they didn't disclose and make you aware of the fee (I've never had this disclosed) you have a great angle especially if it is corporate. Sounds like they knew they could get you and assumed b/c you are young, it was just daddy's credit card and it would just get paid.
They have to let you know how much things like a mini bar/robes/etc are and usually has to have a price list. Most hotels will charge additional per person fee ONLY IF THEY ARE STAYING GUESTS, not visitors. If you had damaged the property, unfortunately you are out of luck. Fight Fight Fight the machine. I've worked front desk at a hotel while at Cal and that place got swarmed during football games, and we never had such a charge and my brother worked at Ritz & 4 Seasons, and never has heard of such a charge either. This is not an INCIDENTAL.

Only speak to the general manager, and don't forget words like UNLAWFULLY CHARGED and Better Business Bureau...and most importantly....your father's LAW FIRM will be in touch. Make yourself appear as more of a problem than it's worth to fight. Don't forget that your parents have always stayed there when they come to visit from SoCal (so his jurisdiction is still valid). Unleash the fury politely and you will be fine.

Re: is it normal for hotels

I would say more than half EASY. there was one woman for sure staying across from us. no people on top, except across the courtyard type thing and they got evicted as well. then, in the back building a bunch of people left from as we were leaving. bad enough, the person that rented the room for us got his face busted open at a party last night as well...haha shit luck I guess. but thanks for the tips. I'll have to see how things go, and fill you guys back in.

Re: is it normal for hotels

I dont understand how that makes me SOL. I came to see if it was a normal occurance if you have a party at a hotel.
I've never heard of a "party fee" from anyone, and i had other friends thrown out of hotels and not charged a "party fee".
    Just saying...

Re: is it normal for hotels

About a yr ago my buddy was going away to the iraq in the marines. So me and my buddies threw him a going away party. We called up the crowne plaza and asked them if it was alright if we did that, they said it was okay(this may have just been because we got the $400 a night 3 room suite) We had about 40 ppl all together and nothing ever happened, even when we left numerous empty 30 packs/bottles. Sounds like your screwed.

I hosted a prom after party at the Marriot in San Mateo. We had around 20 ppl as well. Prior to checking in, I informed the manager that I was using the 2 story suite for a little good bye get together for a friend, and we weren't charged one penny more. We even left a fat tip. This was may of 2008.
