    Exhaust smell from heating system

I'm getting an exhaust smell from my heating vents (especially when heat is set to auto) on warm up and idle. I changed the cabin filter. And I haven't noticed any exhaust leaks. The car is chipped and with a KN replacement filter. Any thoughts?

Re: Exhaust smell from heating system

is it exhaust or burning oil ?

i had a exhaust type smell also and it was due to my valve cover gasket leaking oil down onto the header and burning off

Best 17 dollars i spent replacing that thing.

If your getting an exhaust smell from the vents, you've got an exhaust leak! Probably a leak at the manifold to down pipe area, when your driving the air flow thru the engine compartment moves the exhaust gasses that are leaking out under the car so you don''t smell anything. When your stopped there is little or no air flow (only if the cooling fan is running)so the exhaust gas leaks out and up around the hood and gets sucked into the vents by the windshield wiper and into the passenger compartment. You'll probably want to get that fixed quickly, since if you are smelling exhaust you are breathing Carbon Monoxide which is poisonous

you need to replace your cam adjuster seal and valve cover gasket. Very common problem, ive done plenty of them. The oil slowly runs onto cat and causes a burning smell that gets sucked into hvac system into cabin.
