    '02 Turbo Inlet Pipe different?

I was taking a look at TIPs on Ebay and came across this auction (Link) for a HPS pipe and the auction title states for years 97-03 B5. I remember hearing talk of '02 pipes being different from '03 pipes, but would a B5 pipe fit my 02 B6?

    On the B6 A4 1.8T, the 2004+ differs from the 2003 & 2002.

    The 2002-2003 are identical.

However TIP's like the Forge, will fit and function on all A4 1.8t's, as I had one on my 2004. Sold it to a guy who had a B5 A4.

What is the acutal difference? It is the number of openings? That's the only difference I can see between the B6 Forge tip and B5 HPS Tip.

The location of the PCV valve differs - isn't on the TIP with the '02 and back near the firewall in later models?

Re: '02 Turbo Inlet Pipe different?

My 04' factory TIP had 1 extra fitting up near the 3" MAF end. This look like a copy of the APR TIP...many complaints have been aired about the APR tip as it's missing that extra port. A bit of customization will be required if you have the extra port on your factory tip. I have the APR, however, I recommend the Forge unit as it's got the correct # of ports...

Go to Neuspeeds website, take a look at the 2 TIP's they offer, and you will see the diff.

OK going to Neuspeed's website, just made me even more confused. This is what I came up with from a couple TIPs. I still don't know whether my '02 needs the extra hole or not.

Re: '02 Turbo Inlet Pipe different?

The difference between the 02/03 and 04 is the size of the hole in the top of the TIP, on the 04 they moved the PCV valve from the back of the head to the actual TIP, this required a bigger hole in a different spot.

First off you have 3 different TIP's from 3 different manufacturers...

Second, your 2002 is not different, as far as TIP's are concerned.. Only the 2004-2005!

If you re-read Neuspeeds info(the numbers below the pictured TIPS) they list 1997-2003 on their first TIP, then 2004-2005 on their second tip!

Again the B6 2002 A4 1.8T is not different! Its the 2004-2005, where Neuspeed shows the extra piece of hose to accomidate these years!

Look closely at the Neuspeed TIP. It has 5 ports for attaching, plus the MAF end, and the turbo end...

Look at the OBX hose...same 5 posts, plus MAF and turbo ends...

The HPS TIP you have pictured is missing the top(circled in red on the OBX) port, however the Neuspeed TIP has all 5.

Here a side-by side comparo with the OEM TIP, and a Forge tip-

Both have the 5 ports, and the MAF & Turbo ends...

The secret is in how the specific manufacturers angle the large port(1) near the turbo end!

My Forge TIP did not need the additional hose, because they angled the port(1), to accomidate.

I now have the Neuspeed TIP, and because of their angle on the specific port(1), it requires the additional hose...

The OBX, and Neuspeed TIP's you have pictured, all have the 5 ports, plus MAF & Turbo ends. Just like the OEM TIP, and Forge TIP.

Since you have a 2002 A4, the angle on port #1, is not an issue for you. However make sure you get a TIP with all 5 ports

The different size #5 OEM port Greg mentions is easily accomidated by the Silicone TIP's...

pick either the neuspeed or forge for model year 2002 and call it a day. I ended up doing the forge because everything was included and it works with my K04. Some people that are going BT get the Neuspeed since it will work with the BT kits & K03/K04.

Why didn't you say that in the first place. I just didn't want to get a TIP with an extra hole that I didn't need, but I see that I do need that extra hole at the end of the TIP.

the APR tip works perfect for the 02-03 A4's.
