Coilpack(s) went out AGAIN?!!? It's only been 1 Month.

*I'm posting this for my sister. Pardon me for if this is not the right section.

So she just had her coil packs changed about a month ago, and now the car is acting up again. It is definitely misfiring on some cylinder and the malfunction/check engine light is blinking.

What I want to know is that, would the lack of driving the car, 5 day span, in this crazily fluctuating temperature (was about ~60F yesterday, now ~20F today) cause it go bad and cause it misfire? I'm thinking, most likely not, but I don't really know the quirks of Audis (Subaru guy).

Car has the 1.8T, b6, auto. No engine mods.

    Happy new year people.

That sucks. I've had my car for 65K miles and only changed 1 coil pack. I think its a hit and miss situation. I havent changed plugs either and my car is still running great. (I should probably change plugs soon) You have the newest revision of coil packs?

I'm wiling to go out on the limb and assume it should be the newest revision, but i can definitely find out, when i go out to the car's glove box.

You're a lucky guy though. Thank goodness for the extended warranty. Car only has 54k on it.

Are you sure all 4 were changed? They could have just changed one or told you they changed all 4 (though I like to believe in people). What revision coilpacks did they put in (says it right on the coilpack)? The latest is the R revision. Otherwise, perhaps you just got a bad one or something. Regardless, it's not a common thing for it to fail so quickly. I hope you didn't pay a lot of money to have someone do this for you, it's an easy DIY.

12/23/09 - My car has been phenomenal to me. Runs strong. Don't think I'm ever going to sell it. Rather throw $7k into it for a refresh than buy a new A4 that has no dipstick.
    12/5/10 - 100k miles & counting!
    9/22/13 - 146k+ & running strong w/a new TB, water pump, etc.

yes, you can tell by the coilpack what revision it is. YOu have to take the coilpack off first and look fron the top (the part number is located on the mouthpiece that hooks into to the wiring). I had one blow just this Monday. I didnt have a spare with me so I had to shovel out 50 bucks for one at the dealer.

ECS sells 4 for about $120 and thats definitely worth it. Make sure you have a spare one or two in the car at all times.

OP: You can usually tell whether or not just one coilpack was replaced because the new one will looks much cleaner from the top than the other 3.

Thanks, i'm gonna pull the codes to see which cylinder is misfiring and do a visual check to kinda get an idea of which packs were replaced.

Audi dealer has put me on hold, 10 mins and counting. oh joy.

VW will carry the same coilpacks for a few bucks cheaper than Audi if in a jam, at least by my experience.
