i needed an axle in a hurry because i had an appointment ot get my tie rods changed already and i bought a JHM solid axle. I was just wondering what you guys felt about running an oem axle on the passenger front and a JHM solid axle on the driver side front? Jason said that his JHM axles were only 1lb heavier. thanks alot guys

Don't mix and match axles IMO, grab another JHM or OEM and run a matched pair. Would you run 2 different wheels? Same principle of balanced rotating mass apply.

    Re: JHM Axle

yea i know i should have asked earlier but i just got them installed. do you think its that big of a deal to go in there and replace it again? I was thinking that the other aftermarket axles probably wouldnt be the same exact weight as an oem axle anyways, so i went with the jhm. the JHM axle feels pretty heavy though, does the stock axle have alot pf weight to it?

    Re: JHM Axle

i would deffff go get the pair and change the other one asap ... as it was said above it's 2 different axels being 2 dif weights isnt going to be to the best for the car ... its like 2 dif wheels ... dont beat on it ... just get it changed as soon as u have the money ./.. an axel isnt to hard 2 change so its more gunna b the part cost

    Re: JHM Axle

It probally isn't going to do anything. As long that both are balanced no internal parts of the trans are going to get destroyed or worn out. They are both built for tolerances decently above stock power. So you guys are telling me you've never seen people put diff. sets of wheels on opposing sides before? The weight thing will only slow your acceleration down.

It would only be intelligent to run both to get the best results from the JHM axles designs. Just remember when you make one side stronger the other side becomes weaker. ie the axle itself. This probally doesn't apply to you unless you are running power to even snap these oem/JHM axles.

i doubt it matters, look at the fwd cars that have one tiny axle and one real long one, obviously they aren't the same weight.

Exactly. It is all about balance.

Good point there. The momentum of the different axles are not much different due to the same diameter. Different wheels would surely create an unbalance because of different masses along the line from the hub ID to the OD of the wheel. A body in motion with a larger diameter tends to remain in motion compared to same axle diameters with different masses.

If you have axles of different mass, you will have what is called torque steer which is very prevalent on high horsepower FWD cars.

I'm not sure if the solid axles are any stronger, they are inexpensive copies made in China, the weak parts are the joints, we've installed hundreds of those axles on a number of cars, and have had a few outer joints fail.

The JHM axles are definitely stroger if alot of the s4 guys who snap oem axles are running them

    Re: JHM Axle

Guys, the 2 front axles are different lengths so its not like they are of equal weight even when fully stock.
