    Re: re-wrapping steering wheel

One, getting the correct leather, two, finding somewhere that does it, three, downtime. I doubt anyone is going to want $300 for one. Do you have a 3 or 4 spoke?

Search E-Bay for "a4 steering wheel" and you'll get 4-5.

    Re: re-wrapping steering wheel

how bad is the scratch? if you get the leather wet and work it with your fingers hard it can kind of cure itself somewhat. good leather is fairly forgiving

    Re: re-wrapping steering wheel

I've scratched mine pretty bad before too and found that Lexol leather conditioner (must apply when you're not going to drive for a few hours) helps restore even the worst damage.

I also love how it took until post #6 in order to get a viable suggestion as opposed to 5 on why your thought process is wrong....

just take the old leather out unstich the rest fold it open on a flat surface and use it as a stencil to make the new one

    Re: re-wrapping steering wheel

^^not that easy buddy, stitching it while on the wheel is very difficult, because the leather u take off originally was half the width, because they stretch the crap out of it while manufacturing so there is 0 play on the wheels leather.

    Re: re-wrapping steering wheel

un stitching the steering wheel is not an option..hahaha

i called and was told it was approx 60 to get it fixed...this all depends on severity obviously

im choosing to use the dealers because im sure they use a reputable leather repair specialist...

if a shop were to unstitch and apply a new leather skin, i heard quotes like 250

this might be a temp solution for you, but check out wheel skins. its a cover that you stitch on yourself and if you do it correctly nobody except you will be able to tell its just a cover. custom fit, comes in all sorts of colors and two tones. iirc runs around $20.

I've used these many times on POS cars that I owned for many years. Not bad to add a nice leather feel and a little thickness to older standard molded wheels. They are not a custom fit, so they just kind of "go over" the spokes, not fitting exactly. You also have puckering where you lace it, not the smooth shaved fit of the factory leather. If yours is truely destroyed, it is not a bad way to go. If it is just scratched and needs conditioning, maybe a little coloring, and you can get it done for your quoted $60 or a little more, just go that way.

    Re: re-wrapping steering wheel

I've used the wraps on all of my previous cars before the Audi and if you take your time - they can look outstanding. Quality leather and they last a long time. This is always a good option.
