Stasis SS too low for snow?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
This is a question to all those Stasis SS owners out there, or simply anyone who is knowledged on the subject:

Will the Stasis SS kit lower my B7 too much, such that the underbody of the car will get scraped/damaged when I go over humps of snow/ice? This is important for me to know if I am considering a Stasis SS kit as I go to school in Buffalo, NY. It snows pretty bad up there...

Stasis SS are coilovers which means they're adjustable. Everyone you ask on here is going to have a different ride height. Some people only drop the car a small amount and some people slam it, some people even raise it up for the winter and lower it back down for the summer. Maybe you should open this up for people with all types of coilovers and ask for a pic of their ride height and then how it handles in the snow. Just a thought.

well it depends. u can go back as far up as sline suspension from what im told. but u need to get spacers because u can raise both back and front up high but ur right on the edge of screwing them all the way off. hard to explain with out a good picture. but i have been fine and im still running pretty low. i think no matter how much snow u get u will still get some drag if u dont have enough clearance. i was driving a new outback2.5xt great car with lots of clearance and i was still dragging in some places.

    i have SS btw

Hard to be immune from that unless you've got an SUV. My stock non-sport suspension Avant was hitting all sorts of snow boulders on the undertray/floorboards and exhaust on sidestreets last week. We got about a foot of snow which wasn't a problem until it started melting and ruts formed. Still, glad I wasn't lowered or I would have been STUCK. I don't think anything was damaged, but it was unsettling on my brand new (to me) car...

I have them and because of the adjustability I'm happy, the highest they go I think is 27" ride height which is about sport suspension height.

you're trying to say that you can unthread all the way to separating the coilovers?

Re: Stasis SS too low for snow?

no there is a stoping point...although my shop and i didnt want to take it all the way to the edge (exposing all the inner threads to the elements) as well strength purposes. u could spin it to the stoping point but that connection point would be weaker, so the spacer makes it so you can thread the main down and spacer ontop so no threads are exposed....
this is all from my head the last time i took my car into the shop...so bare with the crappy image. i think this is how it works....

    hope this makes sense.

if anyone can explain it better, please be my guest.
