    damaged upper control arms!

I thought the popping sound was from my cv joints, but i took it to a audi shop and they said it was my upper control arms, all four are damaged. I'm wondering if I should just replace them with Stern ACA? I'm thinking about lowering my car in the future anyway.

    Re: damaged upper control arms!

I'm a rookie at this stuff. I'm too scared to mess with it. I was thinking about taking it to a mechanic, but I don't know if they'll do it because its aftermarket. Unless its real easy to do, then me and my uncle can try and play with it.

How are they "damaged"? I'm skeptical of this diagnosis.

    Re: damaged upper control arms!

    super easy bro...
BTW purems sends you a super easy pic by pic install guide

    1. take off wheel
    2. unbolt pinch bolt and remove pinch bolt 16mm i think
    3. knock out control arm ends (light hammer took mine out easy)
    4. unbolt bottom of coilover bolt 18mm
    5. remove three bolts holding top of coilover to inside of engine 16mm
    6. take out coilover/control arms remove your control arms and install stern
    7. reinstall

the dealer probably means they are worn but i too doubt anything is wrong with them but i love how the sterns make my car handle... stern uses a steel ball instead of the OEM rubber joint so you can feel so much from the road and the car just turns right in where u want it to

    Re: damaged upper control arms!

The mechanic said something about its rubbing and its dry, no grease. In the cold it makes a crazy ass sound like its about to break. I am still debating on buying the Stern ACA or just the upper arms. since its cheaper, and I'm dirt broke right now.
