    Question Exhaust- hush hush

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Okay, so my neighbors have been hinting that my Audi's too loud when I leave in the mornings for work. I'm on good terms with my neighbors and they haven't been bitching at me for the Eclipse all that much. I can see where they're comin' from, early in the morning, when its cold, my car sounds like a V8. I LOVE that angry noise it produces, but I'm not the only one hearin' it. I'm thinking of doing something about it. My idea was this: to have the shop that did this exhaust make me a new piece for the rear. I was thinking of trying to find the resonator and a pair of mufflers from an RS6. I think the exhaust on that is large enough in diameter(even stock) not to restrict flow, but it should bring the noise down significantly. Does anyone else have any other suggestions? I really want to keep my downpipes open, like they are now, though. I don't want to have to redo the entire exhaust either, I think it came out very nice.

    Re: Exhaust- hush hush

whats your current set-up? I just had mine done and its too loud for me. I have gutted stock downpipes(piggies), stock cats, and 2.5 straight thru too 2 magnaflow 5x8 ovals.

My fiance won't ride in the car w/ me anymore. So, I'm in the same boat as you. I too am looking to add resonators. I might just pick up some magnaflow 4" or 6" round 18" long coffee cans and see how that sounds.

    Re: Exhaust- hush hush

My car is super quiet and I have no cats at all & dual 2.5" with straight thru all the way back from the turbos. I have a total of 4 mufflers though. Center mufflers (aka resonators) are probably what does it. But all 4 of my mufflers are 18" long. So there is a lot of muffling, but you can see right thru all of them.. Centers are 4" round, rears are 5x8 ovals. All Magnaflow. Idle & cruise its no louder that an average current sport sedan is stock, like 335i, G35, etc. Get on it & it makes a sweet scream. Makes a great sleeper and also does not disturb...

Add 4" round, 18" long magnaflows to the middle. You will be VERY happy..

    Yeah!

Where exactly should I have them installed?
A few inches past the cats, a foot past the cats, or it does not matter?

here is what mine looks like. 2 secondary cats and magnaflow mufflers.

at idle, its quiet(when warm) and if im roling thru my neighborhood i keep it in 3rd and under2krpm so shes quiet. especially rolling downhill, its basically silent.

    Re: Exhaust- hush hush

Side note- I also have an X pipe in mine. I know there is a ton of debates on X pipes, I do NOT want this to become one. I can say that I removed it at one point and had it put back in an hour later cause it sounded much smoother & more tuned with it. More Euro. For some reason, when I took it out I got a GM V6 like sound. Was awful...
