    Another Spacer Thread

Ok, I know i should have searched more.

I'm thinking about buying spacers for my A4. I have the stock 17" sport wheels.

I'm confused on what to get...

How much spacer do I need before I have to buy bolts?

I was thinking 10mm in the front and 15mm in the rear?

Only pics I have on my work computer... will take more after work if need be

    TIA

    Re: Another Spacer Thread

I don't know how much more "spacer" you could get while still using your stock bolts...

Usually you just take the length of the stock bolts (28mm I believe) and then add however many (mm) of spacer you want.

If you want 10mm spacers, you need 38mm bolts.

I don't think that answers your question though, because you want to see how much "spacer" you could get while sticking with stock bolts.

    Just buy the longer bolts....

I have 15mm front, 20mm rear on my OEM USP wheels which are ET43. I can post a pic if you want, or look for a spacer thread by DavidLizard

    Re: Another Spacer Thread

go with 10mm front and 15mm rear. I just did 8mm front and 15mm rear....the rears look perfect, but the fronts could use just a little more push. I'll probably actually sell my 8mm fronts and get 10mm...just because.

The factory wheel bolts are 27mm long. So just add the width of the spacer you're buying to 27mm and you've got the longer bolt size you need....i.e; 37mm for 10mm fronts and 42mm for the 15mm rears...(give or take a mm or two. I think I used 43mm for my rears).

    Re: Another Spacer Thread

when you buy spacers they come in pair. H&R, ECS..and etc are good choice. As far as bolts go, stock is 27mm so you would need a 37mm ball seat bolts for the 10mm spacers and 42mm ball seat bolts for the 15mm spacers.

This is correct, there is no "extra" length built into the stock bolts so longer ones are required when you add a spacer. Rule of thumb is you want a minimum of 6.5 turns of thread engagement when tightening the lugs. You also have to be careful about going with lugs that are longer than you need, you can contact ABS sensors or run into other things past the threads on the hub.

    Re: Another Spacer Thread

    Very true.
It is not safe to run spacers without proper thread length bolts to go with them.

Even if it's a 3mm i'd still go with longer bolts just to be safe.

If you want to go with spacers, make sure that you get them HubCentric In and OUT.
The Inner diameter will e 57.1mm bore. The outer should also be the same to fit your factory 17s.

If you ever get new wheels, please please make sure that they are 57.1mm. if they are bigger, you MUST, get hubcentric rings. otherwise, it is dangerous. After extended periods of use, your bolts WILL, yes i guarantee you that they WILL, come loose. You may loose a tire at best. fishtail, kill another person, destroy a few cars, end up getting hurt yourself at worst.

    Safety First.

No, that doesn't apply to factory wheels. Their center bore fits directy to the 57.1mm hub, therefore, a spacer with a lip would not fit.
