46k miles, took her in for service:

    symptoms:
    needed 45k scheduled service
brake light intermittently would beep in a left hand turn
creaking from rear right corner (though they hadn't found that yet)
pretty rough roof leak that soaked headliner
price out 1 tire, as I had a tread seperation and had to rotate fullsize spare in.

    estimate:
    brake pads, front - $436
    serpentine belt - $440
headliner inspection only (fix may be more) - $405
    45k routine service - $275
    tires continental sports x 4, installed -$1300
    4 wheel alignment. - $280

Ouchies. I'd do a lot myself, but being busy, I approved all but the last two. Looks like new shoes time for the audi.

That sucks. You could at least do your pads yourself. Shouldn't tale you more than an hour if you've done it before and save $300.

Captain, I feeling for you. What's up with the roof leak. That would bother me more than anything.

    Re: First outside warrantee pain:

We had uncharacteristic rain here in Phoenix last week, and I was working on a website design at home for a client. I really didn't leave for a couple days, and finally, I decided to buy a camera in tuscon (2 hour drive); so I popped the trunk to load my current photo gear (since it was a meeting of fellow gear heads) and immediately saw a pool of water on my cargo liner. Puzzled, I looked around and couldn't identify the source of leak.

I think as far as tires go, I'll piss off mofsteel and get some v708's and tires at the same time. This is the excuse I've been looking for.
The seat behind the driver's was wet, and I could feel water along the headliner (B pillar portion was dry, and was also dry around the moonroof seals). All the way from the driver's head, pooling to the back center. Steaming will clean the headliner just fine, but damn crazy problem for a car like this. (I thought of all the troubles my 95 mustang gave me, certainly never leaked....outside the motor).

My only guess is that it is the driver's side roof rail. I hate paying that much, but considering how much electronic gear is in there, I can't risk a leak I can't repair. I certainly wish I had been able to get a warrantee on the vehicle, couldn't get CPO due to a miltek exhaust setup on the vehicle at tradein.

one positive is that I'm borrowing my mom's 2004 S4 of same color. Its a sedan with a 6speed and the silver suede/aluminum trim package.

It really makes mine feel like a boat, and the interior really feels that much better than the wood/leather combo in mine. One of these days, I'll have to switch to a sedan. I also love being able to apply power in a turn exit without waiting on the transmission to pick a gear twice.

on your list, what would have been covered by the warranty? To me looks like just the roof leak...?

everything else is wear and tear, no?

Capt, next time you might want to take your car into LaSueur in Tempe for the mechanical work. I've had them do a clutch on my B6S4 and other work and they've done a good job, with a very low labor rate ($67 hr). Ask for Rob!

I've also had vivd racing in gilbert do routine maintenance on my car as well (a little pricier).

Those are some pretty outrageous prices.
On a comparable note the Chrysler dealer wanted to charge me 1300 for the 60k mile service on my gfs 300C.
I looked at the the service guy and said ... "Is that dollars?"
I did all the maintenance myself, except for trans flush, for under 400.
That included new front pads/rotors, PCV, oil change, serpentine belt, tire rotation, and plugs and wires.
Do some research and find the time to do as much as you can by yourself.
No sense in busting your butt working and then throw your money away at the stealership.

+1. besides all the little shit going wrong (bad fuel pump, new A/C compressor, bad fuel pressure sending unit, bad MAF sensor) i just got my car back from what has to be the biggest warranty yet. New engine that cost Audi Assured warranty $20k installed. I would so look into an extended warranty without hesitation.

    Re: First outside warrantee pain:

That's an excellent point on warranty vs wear, makes me feel a bit better.

I ended up paying them to do the work, $1562 was my total out the door.

It was pricey, and I could have done it myself, but I already had a buttload of projects on the mustang I'm working on. Last night I spent 5 hours in the garage getting it ready for emmissions testing so I can get it back on the road (installing emmissions gear/exhaust, changing motor and transmission mounts, rebleeding braking system).

I'm glad its done, and I did research the procedures before and just couldn't imagine having it all done before the end of the upcoming weekend. Finding the time has been the biggest bitch of all. The mustang sat on jackstands for 1 month before I could get around to fixing a broken bolt in a header primary. Before that, it sat for 4 months, where I'd just start it once a month and let it run for 15

I miss having the time to wrench on these things.
