    polishing plastic?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
One of the interior glossy trim pieces in the interior of my A4 has some haze and a few light scratches. The scratches are not deep at all and its mostly "scuff" type wear. I have access to a Porter Polisher but i'm not sure if it is a good idea to use on it. Any ideas?

I think you can acutaly get some plastic scratch/haze remover at walmart that's made for headlight lenses, should work just fine on glossy services since all you're doing is just waxing it anyway. just make sure it's acutal plastic and not a painted trim piece.

Anyways, if you guys have scuffed or hazing plastic trim i removed about 95% of all scratches and scuff wear the pieces look pretty much brand new. I have a 2004 a4 and some of the trim was just horrible from the previous owner i mean i'm not even sure how some of this trim got so bad i wish i had before pictures. Here is the process i used

Remove all trim pieces - I had never done this before on an B6 a4 but there are some DIY's that explain it pretty well.

Using a Porter Cable apply Megs 80 and a orange LC pad.

Set Porter to speed 5 and lightly hit the trim pieces using only the pressure of the polisher.

Once the polish is broken down set speed to 6 and apply slightly more pressure then wipe polish residue off with a microfiber.

You may need to hit the pieces a few times depending on how bad the condition is but the 80 is so light that it doesn't break down the trim too much to the point were you need to start worrying about breaking through the gloss of the trim.

    Hope this helps
